| Need opinion on ears Being a first time yorkie owner, I can only go on what I hear from the experts. Chewie is 14 weeks old and his ears still are not standing. The breeder taped them for me when I picked him up from her two weeks ago, but when I took him to my vet (who is also a yorkie owner) she told me her opinion was not to tape the ears. Vet said I could do more harm by taping the ears and causing irritation. She said she's never had a problem with floppy ears coming up on their own. Any way, I took the tape down after the vet visit. His ears were standing for about 24 hours, but then flopped again. The breeder's other yorkies didn't have floopy ears--just maybe a pup or two. While I think Chewie is adorable with his floppy ears, my hubby wants them up "because we paid a pretty penny for him." We won't be breeding him. Thanks in advance for the advice. |

| I think you need to shave some of the hair on the ears off and retape. Alot of people tape the ears on here without irritation

| Jazz's ears were floppy for quite a long time as a puppy. I did nothing, as I too loved them that way. I was kind of disappointed when they stood up. But now I love them that way. I know lots of people tape and shave and whatever, but I just personally like the ears to do whatever comes natural.

| Ben's ears were already up when I got him but Sadies were not. I first shaved the top third of her ears, both sides. One stood and the other drooped right at the point I stopped shaving. Then I shaved all the way down on the ear. Next morning they stood perfectly. Then the other one dropped for a day or two, then they were both up perfectly ever since. I had bought the Breathe Right strips to glue inside the ear. But wound up I did not need to use them.

| I agree with your husband. the ears look much better standing up. Definetly keep them shaved while he is young till they stand up. I do tape the ears if they are not standing by 16 weeks. I tape for 2 days then give them a 1 day rest. If they fall I do it again, same process. I have not had any problems with irritation. Most puppies do not need it but some do. Oh and they will have a tendency to droop during the teething period, this is not uncommon. Hope this helps.
