Donating YT 30K Club Member | Help! I need experienced help with Pixie I brought Pixie home Saturday night and she is 13 months old. The Breeder had her in her basement in a 18 x 2 foot pens with 2 other dogs and more pens with her other dogs. So my problems are 1) When I put her in her playpen at night or when I have to go out, which isn't often, she literally SCREAMS the whole time she is in there. My husband goes to sleep at 7:30- 8:00 pm as he gets up at 3:30am so I let her scream for 15 minutes last night before I had to let her out or my husband would have a fit. So she slept with me, which is OK she just laid next to me all night on her blanket. But how do I get her use to being in her pen when she needs to be. Do you think she will eventually stop screaming if I leave frequently for short periods of time? I have never had a dog that screamed and didn't stop. Do you think she will settle down, I know I am not giving her enough time to settle in but I have never brought an older dog home. The other problem she was on paper at the breeders so really isn't housebroken. I have paper and pads down everywhere in the bedroom but I have never been able to catch her except this morning going on the carpet. Also she doesn't seem to go very often, that I know of. I have been pretty watchful but as far as I can tell she went from 9:00 last night to 7:30this morning without going. Hey she just pooped on the newspaper close to where she peed on the carpet this morning. Since then i put the paper where she peed thinking maybe she would go to the same spot. I am a little more hopeful that she will get trained eventually. I guess one question I have now is since she has peed and pooped in the same area should I take up the paper I have all over and leave it down where she went? Sorry this is so long but any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

| Hopefully she will get used to the playpen in time. Did the breeder tell you how she did confined at her house. Mine did. My Jewels would scream every time she was in the pen and the breeder said she did the same at her house. She never did get used to it and I couldnt really confine her excpet at night. She would quiet down after she saw me lay down to go to sleep. As far as the paper I would put it in the spot she is going. Other than that I dont have any advise because I outside trained mine

| Yes , she will stop screaming . You can practice leaving her for short period of times . Last week , I rescued a 2 years old that already went to 6 homes before mine . Everytime she was alone , she started screaming . I left her for short period of time in her x pen , now she knows that I can go and I will always come back . It can be hard on you when you begin but with patience , patience and patience , she be reassured and stop screaming . |

| Big hugs to you, and Thank you for saving Pixie. It sounds like she's really scared. It will take some time for her to adjust. I really have never heard a furbaby scream. That's so super sad. Maybe when you leave you can place something of yours, like a shirt, robe, something she will be able to pick up the sense, so she won't feel all alone. It hasn't been a week yet, I'd leave the paper where you have it, and pick up one at a time, until you just have one left, lets just hope it's where she wants to go. Best of luck to you. And Again, Big hugs!!!!

| When I got Mazie, she had spent the first nine months of her life with a family who were rarely home. They left her penned up in about four square feet, and half that was her kennel. So when I got her, she quickly became almost psychotically attached to me, couldn't bear to let me out of her sight, etc. When I had to leave her, or pen her, she made the horriblest sounds. But gradually she has come to learn that when I leave, I WILL come back...and when she is penned, she WILL get out again....and she doesn't even whine now. Good luck with your baby! She'll adjust!

| Good luck with her. You are a wonderful person to have taken on someone elses problem. I think in time she will adjust. Meanwhile you might try a larger area, like an X pen with her bed at one end, or the kitchen. yes i would put paper or pee pads over the spot where she went, until she realizes that the paper is where she is supposed to go, then you can slowly move it to where you want it to be. also I would not allow her the run of the entire house until you can trust her to use the paper. I'd keep her confined to the kitchen. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks Pixie came from a good breeder it's just she held on to her longer thinking she would keep her and she has all of her show an breeders and puppies in the basement of her house. She spends a lot of time down there grooming, cleaning taking care of puppies but Pixie was always down there not upstairs and I didn't want people to getthe wrong idea. I did not rescue her I was looking for an older puppy. I just have no experience with one as puppies pee so often you can usually catch them pretty quick. I am concerned about her screaming when I am out of the bedroom and hopefully she will realize that I will be back and settle down. It is not going to be very often that she is left but she needs to underatnd that I will be in and out sometimes. ALso my 2 other dogs are in the room with her? Keep the opinions and expereiences coming it helps. I am going to leave her in my materbathroom today for a little while puppy proofed of courese, so I don't have to worry about her jumping out of the playpen.
