Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Aggressive 15 month old--need help My 15 month old, newly bred, dog attacked our 6 month old puppy for some reason tonight. The puppy has been here for 3 months. There are currently 4 other dogs in the home. It appears that the 15 month old who was bred last week, has become really bitchy this week--is this possible?? The puppy has several puncture wounds on her head, leg and shoulder. I will keep these two separated for a few days but does anyone have any idea why this would be occuring. Up until the 15 month old went into heat, she was the most gentle dog of the group. Any other ideas or suggestions?? |

| Now that the 15 month old dog has had ''a taste of the puppy's blood" you will never be able to trust the 15 month old alone with the pup. Trust me I have been where you are. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMG !!! that's awful ! How is the puppy now ??? Poor baby - I hope she's ok -maybe it's a good idea to spay the older dog ? Actually - they're both puppies but I'd be very worried....my girls have had toy tiffs - but never never bitten each other - it's more about getting the toy and a few drama screams & they always kiss like crazy afterwards |

| It's a hormone thing. I'm sure she has started feeling that the puppy is already a threat to her babies. Keep the puppy away from her all the time. Don't take a chance at putting them together until after all her pups find homes. |

| I agree, but maybe it will just be a one time thing, you never know. Good luck, just make sure you keep a close eye on them...

| It may be hormonal- or you may have a situation where the older female does not like the puppy. The situation can escalate where the agressor becomes sneaky and will go to great lenghts to get at the puppy. I just had a situation with a agrresive dog ( a male) he was loving to me- but always a bit reserved- like he was afraid to completely open up his heart- but became more and more aggresive as he became older. He started to show this unpleasant side of his nature late last winter early spring. He had to be seperated from everyone. He did not like other males- females -kittens or cats. The final draw was when he snapped at a small child. I knew I had a accident waiting to happen on my hands. The accident did happen some months later and another dog was hurt. It is very upsetting when a situation like this happens- you just don't want to think of that dog that you love can have that nasty side to his or her nature. Why it happens I don't know. This male was a adult when he came to live with me and parts of his personality had already been imprinted into his nature. Would he have done well placed in a home with no other pets I do not know- is this part of his nature that he could pass on to any offspring I do not know. I would watch your female once her litter is born to make sure that she does not show any of those tendancies towards her babies. I hope that it is just hormones and her being out of sorts. |

| This sounds like it may just be a temporary hormonal issue but I would keep a close eye on them just to make sure. My Gizmo was a bit snippy with my husky when she was pregnant and she got worse after the babies were born. When the puppies got older, Gizmo would let her come into the family room to see them. They do still have their moments but no blood has ever been shed due to it. I do hope things improve as she goes thru these changes.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I hope it just is hormonal but we will keep them seperate when we're not home to supervise. The little one is doing okay today. She needs a bath and a haircut but we'll wait a few days to make sure the puncture wounds are healed. We're keeping them apart except when we're there to protect, defend, and correct. Does anyone think she could harm the puppies when she whelps? I would hate to have to spay her so soon but if this kind of behavior continues in any way I would and rehome her too. |

| I have never had a female attack another puppy- male or female. You can only hope that is was just her hormones. I would keep this gal away from any other puppies and watch her closely if you have any other adults. Sometimes two pregnant females will grumble at each other but this is further along in the pregnancy and they both are grumpy. But they have never bit each other. I would also keep a tight watch on her when she has her puppies. Make sure that you are set up in case you find yourself in the position of having to hand raise puppies. Last year I took in a puppy whose mother wanted to destroy the litter and did kill several of the other puppies. This mom was a big baby had a section and just would not accept the kids. Her owner left her alone with the puppies and she did not have good mothering skills or a pleasant nature. It was a bad combination and ended up with bad results. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | The 15 month old and the puppy have had a good week--being supervised and only left alone with all the dogs for brief periods. I think they must have been fighting over a toy and it got out of hand. Thank you all for your input. And to the person, who posted on another forum--it was not the newly imported Dam--rather it was one of the dogs I bought from YOU. And you only speak the truth in love......give me a break. |
