Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh my! Her coat won't grow! Hi guys! My name is Whitney and i'm a new member to this community. This is actually my first time posting. I desparately need some help. I'm in a worldwind and I have no idea what the problem is. Here goes nothing ... I have a wonderful Yorkie and her name is Zoey. She was born November 21st , 2005 which makes her 1 year and 2 months old. She's the most loving dog I have ever come across and I adore her to peices (especially her floppy ears) but i'm having a bit of a problem. From what I know , she's a silky Yorkie. Her coat is straight but the texture of it just doesn't seem right. It's pretty scanty and not truly silky like a silky Yorkie should be. For example when I say scanty , if I were to lift her hair up , it stays in that position. It doesn't have any body and bounce. It's definately not flowy. If you were to lift a another Yorkies hair up and it was silky , the hair would fall back down. I don't know what the problem is. I'm killing myself trying to figure out if it supposed to be like that and will straighten out on it's on and if i'm doing something wrong. The next problem i'm having is with her coat length. It won't grow! It's been the same length since she was about 7 months old and I don't understand why. I thought that it would be the diet that she's on. Right now , she eats Pedigree Complete Nutrition w/ Healthy Nuggets (the meaty center). She absolutely loves it! It's been months and it's still the same way! I really need some help. I attached some pictures. The one where she's on the bed is when she was about 5 months old. The picture where she's looking out the door is the most recent picture I have of her. That picture is about 2 months old (her coat looked a bit wavy but it's actually straight). Honestly , I can't tell the difference in her coat length in the picture where she was 5 months old and the more recent picture. Only difference I can spot is where her hair has grown out a bit at the top. Any answers on suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks! |

| hello and WELCOME!! if i may suggest a few things. First Missing Link is AMAZING>.. layla is on it now.. she has a cottony coat (which it kinda looks like your baby has) i don't care if it is never as silky as i would like, but a lot of people on here have said amazing things about missing link.. so we are giving it a try. it is a supplement just in case you didn't know but it will take a few months before you notice a difference. You may also want to try Cowboy Magic. Search it on here... everyone says it is AMAZING at making their coat great! and also.. the food she is on... isn't great quality. You might want to consider switching to soemthing with a) no bi-products and b) with no corn or wheat. You can search food on here and see lots of great suggestions. SO glad you found us!! |

| First off...........Welcome to YT! Your furbaby is just ADORABLE! My opinion..........switch her diet to a premium quality food. Pedigree is equivalent to McDonald's in my opinion. Please visit our Health and Diet forum for ideas on what are better foods. Secondly, I highly recommed Missing Link. I started my boy on it at 12 weeks (he is a little over 6 months now) and the results are just spectacular. My 4 year old poodle has the softest coat too To CAIN, you really need to use it for a few months before seeing any results. Think about it, you wouldn't expect your hair to grow out in 2 days..........neither will your yorkie's . The results will be seen as you see the new hair coming in. The hair already there are dead cells and well, it isn't going to change Good luck to you both!

I hear coats change up to two years. I hope so, as Abbie's seems 'stuck' at one length, too . She'll be 14 months in a few days!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | the texture of the hair, is it wirey or really really soft and thick? she may not have a silky coat after all. My pup has a soft thick cotton coat. It doesn't like down flat. i can give her a faux hawk when her hair is a couple inches long. There are a couple different products you can try. Lots of people on here use Missing Link. Its a powder supplement you sprinkle over their food once or twice a day. It can be purchased at petco or petsmart. I had purchased it for morgan a couple months ago but didn't really see a difference in her coat with it. Then i bought Dermcaps Liquid formula. Didn't really see a difference with that either. Now i have her on Solid Gold Seameal and i see a bit of a difference in her coat. I also feed her premium quality food like merricks, wellness, and innova. These foods are better for their overall health then something you can purchase at the supermarket. You can try a few of these things to see if they help. oh also i started using biogroom shampoo and conditioner recently and i see a difference in her coat with those products as well. It doesn't make her hair grow but it makes it feel softer and it helps lay the hair down flater. There is another product i recently purchased called Seabreeze oil by Plush puppy that i've heard good reviews about. I used it twice on morgan but i used too much and made her look like a greasy slim ball so i quickly washed it out. red98vett uses it on her cotton girl and says it works great. hope some of this helps

| She is beautiful and welcome to YT. There is so much to learn here. Here is a link to the dogfoodanalysis which rates and reviews dog food. Pedigree is only given a 1 star rating you can read the why it was rated so low in the link. I was using Science diet which was also a rating 1 and now have switched to Solid Gold puppy. My pups seem to like it. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f.../cat/7/page/13

| See, the reason I said that was because many people expect to see results immediately Then, they might not give it the chance and claim that it didn't work

Senior Yorkie Talker | You guys are wonderful! Thanks so much for all of the replies. I just searched Missing Link on Yahoo so i'm going to buy her some of that and see how that works out. I've also heard wonderful things about it. As far as Pedigree , I need to take her off of it. Any some of you give me some suggestions as to what a good food may be ? LOL , i'm sorry but i'm completely clueless. I definately need to change her shampoo and conditioner. That Biogroom shampoo sounds really nice! Is most of this stuff sold at PetsMart? Thanks again! If you guys have anymore suggestions , just let me know! |
