| no, it is too far to ship it alone. look at different flights. they almost all have long stopovers. The puppy will go in cargo where it might be heated but the loading and unloading on the tarmack will be cold. None of the airlines let you ship in cabin and alone. We used to ship counter to counter but most of them have even stopped doing that. I am flying out to LA in feb. My flight with one stop is eight hours. That is far too long to fly a dog. Or i should say yorkie. We have flown beagles for thirty years but they are a much heartier dog than a yorkie. If the person really wants the dog, let them fly to get her. People on here do it all the time. JMO |

| Lola was shipped to me from Alabama to Michigan when she was only 1 1/2 pounds. She did excellent and the airline was very nice( I believe it was American Airlines aacargo.com). My sister had her bulldog shipped from Michigan to Washington and he had breathing problems. They called a vet, called her, gave him water etc. and everything ended up just fine. I think if your dog is 10 months old and healthy she'll do wonderful! You have to have a cert. saying she's healthy and been checked by a vet immediately before you ship her. It's not possible for everyone to fly to pick up a pet. For me, with two boys and a husband who was not able to take time off(hence the reason I could afford my yorkie) going to pick her up was IMPOSSIBLE. I don't have family who could watch my kids while I fly to pick up a puppy. That doesn't make you a bad pet owner, some of us just don't have that luxury. She was so wanted and is now so spoiled and I still keep in contact with the lady I bought her from. Go with your gut, if you think this will be a wonderful home for her then I'm sure she'll do fine on her flight. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

We ship out of lexington. I guess we have shipped a thousand puppies. delta has the cargo area where you go and check yoour pup in. Then there is this huge open ended area under roof but open all around that the dogs are left until shipping time. Some lady was there last time shipping a whole litter of some sort of big dog. they came for them finally with one of those train things they carry luggage on. I felt sorry for them. i don't know how long she had been there when we got there. too bad I can't take but one dog when I deliver mine to LA or i coould take yours. Just go by your gut. A lot of people don't realize how far away from the rest of the world Ky. is. it isn't like shipping across two or three states. At least to me it isn't. I just wouldn't feel comfortable but you might. I can tell you this, the time my flight will be in the air is almost eight hours. That is only flying time. Then I have a layover in the middle. So find out how many times it has to change planes. Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 01-22-2007 at 12:59 PM. | |

| I would never put a little dog in the cargo area. The temp. change in there is so drastic. How traumatizing. I flew to pick up my first one and flew the gal out to CA. to bring me the second one. If they want that baby they should fly out and get it. |

| shipping Does anyone know what the temp. environment is with the airlines? I've done some research on the net, but can't find any information on whether or not dogs/pets are in a temperature controlled cargo hold. This worries me. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks!!!! |

| shipping question I was just curious about the shipping of newly purchased yorkie babies, as I see so many sellers that ship. So I was wondering about their enviroment during the process. I logged onto the different airlines searching cargo info - but didn't find the info I was looking for. I agree, I wouldnt' want to ship a small puppy at all. Too scary. |

| That's why I gave up on nonlocal yorkies. the shipping thing is a nightmare. Having to have a vet certifate before I take a pup on as carry on. or in cargo. I couldn't do it. doing the math if you talk shipping. a good shipper will charge you. $350.? more or less. to get your pup on the best and shortest flight plus the price of the pup. now my area of WV the breeders are shifty. and I won't buy a pup from any of them. I know there's some good ones out here soemwhere. but with time constrants and just plain dang picky. I'm going with a rescue. and waiting til I can fly out to meet and view a pup. afore I comit to a good quality dog. not saying in a rescue won't get one. cause you can. I'm just saying flyings a bit of a trick. and I'm not up for it yet. Plus the husband donna like me out of his sight for long. LOL TyTy |
