| Nutro Max VS. Ultra?? A few months ago I switched my yorkie from Eukanuba to Nutro Max. Since then I have noticed that her skin has become increasingly itchy/flaky and she has had some stomach issues. I have read that many of you feed your dogs Nutro Ultra...is there a big difference between the two? Is it worth a try? |

| Sorry I can't answer your question but I feed mine Nutro Ultra and they do great on it. They haven't had any skin or stomach problems. Call Nutro and ask them to send you samples of Ultra. I did and they sent me samples |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | yeah i was right. regular nutro has one protein, like chicken and rice or lamb and rice. Max has two protiens, chicken, lamb, and rice, and ultra has 3 proteins. When your dog has a food allergy you want to feed it a protein that it is not used to. Feeding a combo of two or three proteins isn't going to help unless they are a combo of proteins like venision, duck, rabbit, buffalo, etc, that they usually don't get in their normal dog food. So if your pup is itchy i would take her off nutro and start feeding a better quality food like wellness, merricks, or innova. these foods come in different protein varieties that may help with the itching. Also the food i mentioned do not contain corn. all forms of nutro do. corn and wheat have are big allergy causers

| I am curious to know about the Ultra as well. I'm having a really hard time finding something Abbie will eat. The salesperson at Petsmart today told me there was a guarantee on this food and if she didn't like it I could get a refund. She didn't turn her nose up yet, but it usually takes a few days. I hope you get a good response on this thread. |

| Reesie..How funny, my dog's name is Reese!! Pet Smart were the ones who recommended Nutro to me as well. They endorse the product. Reese eats it with no problem. She prefers it way over the Eukanuba. It is just so hard to figure out which food is the right one..so many people say different things and each dog is different!!!! |

| Hi, after reading this I'm wondering if I should switch foods?? I feed my dogs Nutro natural Lamb and Rice. My one dog has allerigies and I was actually told by my vet to try this. My cousin's dog has allergies also and she feeds her dogs this also and it has helped them. I was told the Lamb and Rice doesn't have corn in it but I just read someone saying all nutro foods do. I went to their website and this is what I copied for my food: Lamb Meal, Ground Rice, Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of natural Vitamin E), Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of natural Vitamin E), Natural Flavors, Rice Gluten, Dried Egg Product, Dried Beet Pulp, Potassium Chloride, L-Lysine, Dried Kelp (source of Iodine), Salt, Choline Chloride, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Taurine, Ferrous Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Biotin, Copper Proteinate, Niacin, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Vitamin A Supplement, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid. Unless I'm nuts I don't see corn anywhere. What do you guys think? Should I try something else? My one dog seemed better on this food but perhaps there is something even better for him?? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

| I just looked at my bag too. I switched because it wasn't supposed to have any corn or wheat in it. There's no corn listed on the bag. For the price, it better be good! |

| I am so glad this got a good response. I was reading last night on a consumer feedback website that people have switched from Nutro Max to Ultra and saw a difference. I know in the Max the second ingredient is corn... and no corn is listed in the Ultra..so I guess I will try the switch and see. Taste-wise, Reese prefers the Nutro way over the Eukanuba...my sister's boxers will eat anything and they wouldnt even touch the Eukanuba..Thats gotta tell you something!! so for fussy puppies it is def. worth trying!!! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Within each brand there are different qualities and sometimes the highest qualities are foods that our dogs won't touch. A friend brought over Nutro Max and Joey loved it, but I read because it had corn, he might develop allergies, so I switch to Nutro Ultra, and Joey wouldn't touch it. Sometimes we have to compromise between the "best" food and the one they will eat. However, if you dog is suffering allergies, I would definitely try to find something without corn in it.
