| Neutered on Tuesday and still sleepy? I had Grizzly neutered on Tuesday and now 4 days later, he's still sleepy. He eats pretty good and the incision looks like it's healing well. But he's not himself. He may play for a minute and then just want to go lay down and sleep. I thought it might be the medication doing this even though the vet said it shouldn't make him sleepy. Did anyone else have this happen? How soon before he'll be himself again? Thanks. Just a little worried. |

| Why does he have him on so much medication? Mine just got pain medication. Prednisone is a pretty strong medication its a steroid. They usually give it to a dog that has a skin irritation like allergies

| It took our little Maci about 5-6 days before she was basically back to normal, and she did not have any medication. It's a pretty tramatic event, so just give him a couple more days. He'll be just fine!

| It's been long enough that the medications could be totally eliminated. Make sure he's getting vitamins that contain Vitamin C. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | How is he doing now? I just had Lex neutered two weeks ago and he was only drugged up that first night I brought him home. He came home with some penicillin and a pain med that he took twice a day for three days post-op. By the following morning he was back to himself and jumping and acting the fool. Hope he is better now and his sutures have healed.

| He's on ALL of those just for post-surgery?? Rimadyl is an anti-inflammatory, so I don't know why he'd be on that AND Prednisone. I've never heard of Prednisone being prescribed for post-surgery either! However, it more than likely is the meds making him sleepy (different dogs react to them differently, so your vet can't tell you for sure either way), so don't worry about that being long-term or anything.

| I have stopped the Rimadyl starting today. And the Prednisone dose decreases a little every day. I called the vet again today and they said not to be alarmed. Since he is eating good and his stool is normal, they are not concerned. They said every dog is different on how they react to the meds and that the steroid will make him not want to do much. I asked how long I should give him the meds and they said until the bottle's empty which is about 1 wk after his surgery. So I feel a little better. Thank you all for your advice. |
