| Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new Yorkie. Sissy is my first Yorkie and she is now 17 months old. She will be getting a little sister very soon - that is how in love with Yorkies I am!! How old is your baby? Are you yet familiar with the common problems that can arise in a puppy - like hypoglycemia? Make sure you have Nutrical on hand for that. Canned pumpkin (without spices) is good to give them for an upset tummy, keep Pedialyte (non-flavored) on hand in case of diarrhea - to keep them hydrated. Read all you can about dog food ingredients and make sure you are giving your pup the healthiest you can. If you change foods, you need to do so gradually so as not to cause tummy problem. Oh, there is just so much more. Keep up with this forum and you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know. Be forewarned we talk about everything from the color of their poop, how many times a day they poop, what might be in their poop - as well as tons of other stuff!! Oh - and learn how to post photos cause we need to see your new pup!!

| My baby turned 9 weeks this past Sunday. He was bought when he was one day shy of being 6 weeks. (I only found out that was too young to be taken from his birth "mommy".) He checked out great at the vets on Dec. 26. Then about a week later he developed tapeworms (I live in an apartment and was trying to potty train him to go outside). The vet said he needs to be kept inside until he's older and his immune system is stronger. So I began paper training him. I will not let his feet touch the ground outside for a very very long time.....if ever. He's better now, and absolutely "Mommy spoiled." The breeder had him on some kind of food called Blackwood Puppy Food and the vet put him on Science Diet little Bites for Puppies. He did good with the gradual changeover. "Sparky" is definately true to his name. Thanks for all the adds and I appreciate any and all suggestions. |

| Congratulations on the new member. Your going to totally enjoy this baby boy. Yorkies.........what's not to love. I'm not a bit surprised your Vet. put your baby on Science diet. It's one of the worst dog food you can get. The Vets. are only pushing it because they make a profit. Most Vets. are not trained in nutrition, and the ones that are, don't sell Science Diet!! http://www.homevet.com/petcare/foodbook.html http://www.prwatch.org/prwissues/1996Q1/madcow13.html http://home.att.net/~wdcusick/03.html Buy Dr. Pitcairn's complete guide to NATURAL HEALTH FOR DOGS & CATS. It also has some nice recipes in it. |

YT 3000 Club Member | congradulations on the new pup, they are a treat breed they will love yoy to death. Chester was my first yorkie and I would do anything for this little burger. Yorkies need good dog food science diet, iams, and eukunuba are all bad. Solid gold for puppies is rated good, innova, canidaie, and timber wolf are all good. The little guys need to be well socialized, start taking him out after his shots are completed, get him used to noises and they are stubborn but smart. Harneses are better for the little ones they dont constrict at the neck, and also if you have to pick them in a hurry from other big dogs. Rawhides are bad will swell in their stomach, the little guys are more sensitive to stuff, alot of bones can break off or obstruct in them. Keep up on the site you will learn I wish I would of had it when I first got chester. |
