| Yorkie with a tail Well after an intense search for a Yorkie for myself. I am at a conference today so I had 12 hours to research the web. I found out that a co workers mother in law is having Yorkie pups in 2 weeks. I have seen his yorkie which came from the same mother and father and it is very cute. The only problem is they come with a tail. And I am not used to this and I dont want any problems later on. I called a vet and he said to have the pups in within 2-4 days and it would cost $50 to shorten it. ANy pros and cons and how to go about this situation with a tail?? THanks Yorksters!! |

| Docking of tails is forbidden in a few European countries, and the dogs with the tail untouched have no health problems because of it. Docking is only the matter of habit here, in US, I suppose.. If the tail is left long in a puppy older than 10 days, I wouldn't even touch it, after that time they need to be put under for it, I think...

| I'm not a fan of docking tails. I know it's how it's normally done but I hate the thought. I've heard it doesn't hurt but I'm not sure that's true. We aren't the one having it done so we can't really say that it doesn't hurt. And my boy seems very sensitive whenever I touch his little tail. My girl was not docked and I loved her tail. If I had the choice with my boy...it would have stayed long.

| I don't think you will have any health problems with a Yorkie with a tail. My sister in the UK has 3 Yorkies all with their tails. They are over 5 yrs old and she has never had any health problems. |

| I would keep the long tail. If I had a choice I would have avoided having Daisy's tail cut. I think they are adorable.

| It's just a cosmetic thing, really. Now if you were planning on showing the dog, then YES, it's tail must be docked. I think the ones with tails are precious!

| In the UK you cannot dock the tails.....we have no problem with any of our's, I thought I would share with you this.......when sleeping their very end of their tail wags when they are having a dream!!!It's just so cute it makes me think that they are so precious and that they are trully happy!!! They are also a little barometer of how they are feeling!! You can tell a lot by what the tail is doing. I had yorkies in the past with the short tails when it used to be done here and My mum's yorkie is just about to turn 14, she is the large yorkie in 2nd photo ,she was born before the tail docking rule over here. I would keep the tail...

| OMG I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. during all my reasearch i never knew that yorkies didnt come with their tails like that, i thought they were bron with little tails , so do they all have to have them cropped or sre some born with them tiny, my frankster has a tiny tail, infact a littel stump.

| yorkies tails were first docked to avoid injurys when they were working dogs but as most yorkies are not anymore there is no need to have it done. its banned in the uk and yorkies can now be shown with tails. my 13 year old boys have there tails as i bred them myself and wouldnt have them docked and have never had any problems with there tail some say they should be docked incase they get there tail shut in a door but your more likely to step on there foot than shut there tail in the door but you wouldnt cut there feet off. brandi had her tail docked by someone b4 i got her which was against the law and they cut it to short so now she has the bone sticking out the end waggy tails at first can look strange but you soon get use to it and come to love em
