| Chewy has started barking a lot too. She didnt bark until she was about 6-7 months but now that shes almost 9 months, it gets worse every day. She barks when she hears people in the hall way ( i live in a building), when she hears dogs outside, when she wants what we're eating, or wants to be picked up. these are all valid reasons to bark the same way a person would need to speak, but she is barking all the time!!! So i know how you feel and hope someone can give us advice. |

| well layla never barked.. but since being on vacation.. shes taken it up as a hobby! we try a few things... first... squirt bottle with water... i carry it around and squirt it on her face when she barks.... when that doesn't stop her i grab her nose and hold it and say "ah ah" in a stern tone. when THAT doesn't work i grab her and turn her on her back (to tell her i am in control) and say no barking... but i think i've only had to go this far about once.. she usually stop with the water.. it REALLY pisses her off HOWEVER yorkies are known for being "watch dogs" not guarddogs, but watch dogs... so it is hard to get her to stop when someone is at the door... i let her bark.. but it doens't go on for long.... she can alert us but that's it. good luck... it's a tough one! |

| If my Maltese Jack (RIP) was barking I would say Quiet Speak and he would just mumble...It doesn't work that way with these 3 York's. Especially Sunnie, when she's got something to say nothing will stop her.

| Lucy stopped barking in the house when I rolled a magazine and hit it on the coffee table if she barked (it worked well and fast). But it did not work outside. She stopped barking outside when a trainer told me to put a little bitter apple on her tongue if she barks. it has to get to the back of the tongue, her mouth needs to get a little frothy, and tell her quiet first to give her a chance to stop (which works now). But I always carry a bottle with me. Of course I called her vet and checked with them. They said the bitter apple would not hurt her. And really I used very little for a short time. I put it on my finger then put it in her mouth, I don't spray her mouth, I did that only once, the first time. These were all last resort methods after working with private trainers and trying other ideas for over 1 year. Now I can take her places. In fact, she went to the mall with me today. |

| I, too, am working HARD on Hopey with this, she barks at EVERYTHING! I just put my finger onher snout and say SSSHHHHHHH, she still grumbles but she knows that this means to be quiet now... she is a superwatch dog until she makes the lab bark, then she hides.. LOL

| Gucci barks when she hears people on the hallway. (we live in an apt bld) I tried the spray bottle, the can with pennies and those wont work for her. She will stop for a sec and stars barking at me. What I do now is tell her NO on a stern voice and hold her snout. This I have to do for a while and then she gets it and stops. Is impossible to expect for a dog not to bark at all, i tell this to my neighbor who dare to tell me to muzzle her. So all i can do Is as soon she barks I look at her and do what I posted above. Good luck. |

| Archie and Willie are sitting in my lap barking while I'm typing --- I believe they saw the word "bark" and that set them off. Actually they are doing more of the "grrrr-woof" than the BARK, BARK, BARK, etc. They are supreme watch dogs and I think they consider the planet their territory. They love to bark at the cats, the birds and squirrels outside and their dog neighbors. I'd like to try some of these suggestions to control inappropriate barking but first I'd have to catch them. They are usually running around at full tilt when they in bark mode. |
