| Zodiac sign conflict - Dragons vs Dogs Hello, I need help. I used to hate dogs all my life because when I was young, they barked at me and chased me around. I have been scared of dogs all my life until one day about 2 months ago, a friend of mine lost her Chihuahua and told me to find a Yorkie for her. So I tried unwillingly and went to a pet store. Upon holding a Yorkie puppy in my hands, I fell in love and have started my search for my own Yorkie. Well, I've done my research and all set to get one but then my mom told me that I absolutely can't have a dog because I was born in the year of the Dragon, I'm Chinese btw. According to all the monks and legends, Dogs are Dragon's mortal enemy. My mother told me if I adopt a dog, not only will it affect my wealth, carreer, but more importantly, my health will be in jeopardy and risk death. I know some men who were born in the year of the Dragon and married a woman who was borned in the year of the dog, didn't live too long and their marriage failed miserably. I'm not joking. I was never superstituous to begin with but upon hearing all these stories and witnessing some of these, I'm a little precautious. But I love Yorkies to much and will gamble. The thing is that I love my mom as well and I don't want her to worry about me. Are there any Chinese owners, especially men who were born in the year of the Dragon, who owns a dog? I was told about the legend that the reason why Dragons fear dogs is because one day while the Dragon was performing a spell, a dog interupted him and broke the spell. Since then, the dog has been the Dragon's mortal enemy. Is there anyway to break this curse? I know I can't have one, but I still come back here everyday to read up all the funny/sad stories here about your Yorkies. I jealous and I want one, please help anyway possible. Thanks for your time, Nuriko |

| imho, superstitions have as much power over your fate as you give it. you can always find "proof" that the superstition is true in varying circumstances. but the fact of the matter is, you are the master of your own fate, not some random cosmic saying that's been handed down for generations. you will experience changes in life that will effect your health, wealth, and career, but can every negative impact be attributed to you owning a dog? and will the lack of a pet dog prevent negative impact to your life? can you know that to an absolute certainty? is it only because you were born in the year of the dragon? i honestly doubt it. owning a dog may negatively impact your health, wealth, and career. pets can carry worms and diseases into your home thereby effecting your health. pets can get sick and need extensive medical care at a considerable cost thereby effecting your wealth. pets can have emergencies and caretaking needs that would hinder you from various jobs, thereby effecting your career. but that applies to everyone, regardless of your zodiac sign. my parents keep telling me that having two male dogs in the same household will cause disharmony in the household. do i have disharmony in the house now that i have two male dogs? sure, they fight every so often. but i'm sure if i had two children of any sex, there will be more "disharmony and fights" in the house than if i had no children and no pets. so i just think this superstition thing is a lot of silliness. rather than being troubled by superstitions, consider some tangible concerns. what's your schedule right now, can you accomodate the responsibilities of training a new puppy? what's your financial situtation right now, can you accomodate the additional expense of dog ownership? can you line up friends or family to watch your yorkie if you are away for any reason? do you have any pet restrictions where you live? are there responsible breeders in your area from whom you'd consider purchasing a yorkie? do all the proper research first and don't worry about silly superstitions. |

Have you considered participating in a foster program for dogs? Perhaps providing a temporary home for a dog would get your mom to turn around on dog ownership. | |
