| Why a yorkie? What made all of you decide that you had to have a yorkie? For me it was love at first sight. I didn't even know what they were or how big they were, but as soon as I saw one I knew that I had to have one someday. Luckily I love their outgoing personalities and they happen to be tiny which fits with my lifestyle right now. I used to think that I wanted a chi, until I saw my first yorkie photo that is. I just thought that it would be interesting to know what first drew all of you avid yorkie lovers to this wonderful breed. |

| I think we've saw a few of them around (you really don't see many Yorkies around Seattle much unfortunately), but then we researched different breeds after we decided on getting a puppy. Needless to say, after finding out they were smart and don't shed hair, we were hooked. And after we visited the first breeder we went to, well, here's Yoda! |

| My Toto actually started as a "bribe" which backfired on my husband!! After our poodle died several years ago, I had been really firm when I said never, never will I get that attached to another dog!! I never intended to have another pet!! I was so devistated by Nicole's death that I couldn't even think about it! My husband wanted to buy a travel trailer and began researching and I [not being a "camper"] would just say ... whatever, dear ... ! I really don't know how he came up with the Yorkie idea because neither of us had a clue about them. He would be online and say ... look at this ... unbelievable!! Naturally, I became curious ... they were just adorable!! We began buying and studying books and any information we could find and before I knew it ... he had sucked me in!!! Then he began a serious search! He would show me this one and that one and then I would see the price!! Being the conservative one I was mortified .... pay THAT for a tiny dog? .... I don't THINK so!!! His philosophy has always been "whatever makes YOU happy"!! He finally found [through a vet] a breeder in Georgia who raises show dogs and after a long process and an eternity of waiting .... taa daa!!! TOTO!! We both became her "slaves" within five minutes of holding her and would've paid ten times over her price!!! We got her on October 21 and picked up his travel trailer at the factory in Texas on October 27!!! What a whirlwind ... next thing I knew, I was in a park, in a trailer, holding my tiny baby Toto!! The really funny thing ... he is more attached to her than I, if that's possible!!! She is spoiled rotten and our absolute joy!!!

| Well, I came into Don's life in 1998 with Pogo, my Doodle dog who will be 13 next month. Pogo had been devoted to my husband and was lying right next to him when he died of cancer in 1995. Pogo went into such a depression he had to be taken to the vet and medicated. Gradually he came out of it and we had a wonderful time camping together (something new for us!) in my little dome tent in the state parks of Vermont. I sold my house on 11 acres and moved into a condo in town and poor Pogo went into another depression. But in 1998, I met Don, a lovely widower in Maine. We began to wear a track in Route 2 between Vermont and Maine and Pogo went everywhere with us! He LOVED having a man in his life again -- Pogo has always preferred men. And this man owned woods on a lake in Maine!!! Pogo was is heaven! I know, this is about Yorkies....I'm getting there. Quite simply, Pogo has been a PERFECT dog. He is half Dachshund/half Poodle and 17 pounds of SMART. Last year he kinda hit the wall of old age. Just like I did. Dang! Really slows ya down, ya know? I began to realize that Pogo would probably go to the Rainbow Bridge before I do and I couldn't imagine life without a dog in it. Don doesn't like dogs. Nope. He really isn't big on any pets. His wife loved cats and he had two cats. He had given 4 cats to Jean's sister when Jean died suddenly in 1996. Don said in no uncertain terms "After Pogo goes, there will be NO MORE DOGS." I said "Oh yes there will!" He said "Then you and the new dog will go live elsewhere," and I said "Fine with me! I won't live life without a dog but I will live life without a husband!" I really wanted to get a puppy, preferably another outcross of two small breeds, so Pogo could "mentor" that puppy and teach him how to be a good dog like Pogo is. And I began to search, looking in local papers over the last year or so. Don kept saying "No way." I would like to say the Toto convinced Don that Yorkies were wondeful. But he really wasn't all that interested in Toto during the week we all spent together at a Casita rally in Florida last January. Of course, the fact that PATRICK had this cute little dog had an effect. Don and Patrick are very competitive and what one has, the other must have also, right Bettyeanne? They are sooooooo funny, those two guys! It was little Chanel that got to Don. We stayed on at the RV park after the rally, and there was a tiny 4-year old little Yorkie that walked with her owner around the park several times a day. She loved me and would come running to get patted and kissed and loved on.....Her owner said she didn't like anybody else in the park....just me! I began to look at Yorkies. Impossibly expensive for our retirement budget. Pretty much gave up on that idea. All this time, Don is saying "NO MORE DOGS!" Thought maybe I would get a Pug. They look like me and dogs and owners look alike, right? Started haunting the humane societies. Valentine's Day is our anniversary. And my birthday is in March. Toward the end of January, Don said over coffee one morning "Okay, if you HAVE to have another dog, you can have one, BUT it HAS to be a YORKIE!" Could have knocked me over with a feather! I warned Don that terriers could be terrors and not laid back like Pogo. Didn't matter. HAD to be a Yorkie. THE SEARCH WAS ON! It took about a month to find Higgins. There is no more devoted "daddy" than Don! This man who doesn't like dogs is so in love with Higgins it is a joy to see! Higgins sleeps with Don. Is by Don's side at all times. But he loves his "mommy", too, and is always fair about handing out his kisses equally. I have owned many breeds and mutts in my life and I think Higgins and Yorkies are unique. Smart and full of personality that blossoms in a loving family. Higgins has become the center of our lives! Viva Yorkies! |

| I had seen one years ago at a campground I go to. Then a friend of mine got one. I just thought they were so adorable. Researched for years and found a great breeder who is now my friend. I love Yorkies!! Will never have another breed but a Yorkie. They are so dedicated to their family (master), no shedding, smart, lovable, needy (I love a needy dog), they tolerate all the cute clothes we make them wear. They are a happy dog for sure! |

| I tell my brother it's his fault. He bred Yorkies up by Chicago had 28 females he did and two of the cutest males i'd ever seen. So i first got 2 females and a male from him when he quit.pebbles was a good girl but they were older and passed. Then we bought Mini Schgnauzers, Smart dogs. but, I wanted a lap baby. So i saw this add went to visit this older woman, She was so sweet, she had two yorkies for sale missy and a silver she put the silver one in a play pen besiude me. I told her missy was the one i liked, but for the life of me i couldnt leave sassy. She was so pretty. well i didnt know it but sassy was peg and had to have c-seaction. Well that was worse than being with my girls and she had one pup. I told the doctor to spayed her and gave her to a lady that lived alone and wanted a pet. well this dog now has to have her shoes on and be dressed when she gets up. and the woman thinks its her baby. But, i kept Missy, she would come up to my aaunt when i was keeping my aunt and nudge her hand so she would pick her up. and nigel would put her under the covers and say poor thing shes cold it could be 100 out side. I never arugured with her she was 94. but, I thought alot. They (Yorkies) are the best lap babies i ever saw. I take them to the nursing home the people go nuts over them. Well i used a couple friends males and decided i wanted to raise them. To bring joy to someone else as much as they have me. then we got a computer and i started looking at Yorkie websites and i found BOBO's daddy. and i had to have a puppy my own male out of him. So my friend and i drove 5 hours one way to Mo. and got BOBO. He has been the joy of my life. Everyone loves Bobo. Yopung and old alike. he'll set on the arm of either my husbands chair or mine, if we are in it and at nite time he goes to bed with me. I don't know what id do with out him. I have panic attacks bad ones and Filromyalgia and my babies will come set on my lap and lick me when im having a bad day. Don't know how they know but let me tell you they do. I'd like to make BOBo a service dog.

| Had always wanted a Yorkie growing up. Bought my first house and had to get my first yorkie. Max was my very first dog that was all mine. Growing up we always had dogs. He was the best yorkie. Had him a couple of years and someone dumped Lucky, my chow-mix, took her in and they were inseparable. Max had a great Life for 17 years and will always have a part of my heart. Lucky became so depressed with out her Max, that I got Maddie, who is a angel. Lucky perked back up and loves Maddie so much. Maddie always wanted to play and Lucky is 14 years old, so I decided to get Maddie a friend. So along came Rudy. What can I say about Rudy, he keeps our lives interesting and can be so sweet when he wants to. Maddie and Rudy love Lucky so much, they wait forher by the door when she is out and act like the haven't seen her for ever, when she tries to come in the house. They all have a piece of my heart and make my life complete. I just love my furbabies so much..............Cindy |

| I got my first dogs when I was 9 from a shelter (2 female carrin terrier). The oldest one died a few year ago and the other had to be put to sleep due to illness and age in March so I had a 'void' in my life. I always loved Yorkies; they're smallness, their appearance, well, everything! So I asked my dad if we could go check to see if anyone had any Yorkies for sale and we found 'Pippin' at our local pet store. He was sitting in the corner with his floppy ears and the owner let us hold him and he started to give us lickies so I knew I wanted him! The next day we brought him home and the rest is history I also must point out that whenever I go out with Pippin in his doggy bag we always get stopped "ohhhh, look how cute!" |

| I always wanted a dog when I was younger but my parents didn't allow it. So, when I moved out on my own.. I began my search for the "dog for me". I knew I wanted a small dog... toy breed, since I live in a condo, so I did research on a lot of the toy breeds. My boyfriend was also helping me look... he has a llasa apso (sp?) and I wanted a dog as small or even smaller. He found a picture of a Yorkie and we both agreed. They were just so cute in their pictures and they just seemed perfect for me. I began reading up on them, and everything about them I loved. and 1 and a 1/2 years later I found the right one: Biggie! |

| I love all the stories of how all of you got your babies. They are such wonderful little dogs and we are all so lucky to have them. Gabby is such a sweetheart and a cuddle bug I just love her! The really great thing is that all of yours seem just as wonderful, so I know that it is the breed and not just an individual dog. |

| Before I ever saw a yorkie I actually wanted a chihuahua..a friend of my husband has one and she was very sweet as a puppy, but I didnt like the look of that breed as an adult,so I changed my mind. Then my husbands aunt came over with "Freya",her 2 lb yorkie, and I fell in love I had never seen such a cute dog before, the hair..the face,I loved everything about it.So I started looking for my own and found Lady.As she grew up,I missed having a puppy around,so we got Jess...yorkies are totally adictive! Lady si now 11 months old and 1 lb 13oz,and Jessie is almost 6 months old and is at a little over 6lb´s..I love them both to bits and Im so glad that I didnt get a chihuahua! |

| I recently moved to Los Angeles, 3000 miles from anyone I knew. I started to live with my boyfriend and went to school, started my life here. Ive always wanted a dog. I can still remember dreaming about the day. But when I moved out I figured that I shouldnt get one now because I might have kids in the future and didnt want to risk hurting a small dog. Well after a doctors visit I found out that I will never have kids naturally, so about 3 months later after a long search I got Binky. My boyfriend hated me for it at first, but now he loves him. Hes always stealing him away from me. Binky likes to sleep on my boyfriends head at night, right on his pillow. When he was a baby he used to crawl under my 3 feet long hair, probably thinking I was his mommy (she had a full coat). I couldnt imagine life without him. He makes me so incredible happy. Hes my one and only kid. I sometimes think about it, Ill probably have him until Im 40. That was the biggest commitment I have ever made. Id do it all over again. Only regret I have is that I didnt get one of his sisters or brothers so he has a playmate. |

| Cute thread! Well, I have a pomeranian and a Shih Tzu and I knew in my heart that I eventually had to have a yorkie since I grew up with them. I missed yorkies and glad that I got my little Mei Mei..........although she is pretty yappy, I have to admit. She is such a mommy's girl and follows me everywhere and always wants love and hugs. How can you not want that from a little yorkie sweetie pie?!
