| AKC question One year ago I bought a AKC 13 week old male yorkie from the newspaper. This week my vet told me he doesnt look like a purebred yorkie (yorkie/poodle maybe). Is there any recourse against the seller I could pursue ? Do I need more proof than just the words from a vet ? Seller doesnt answer the phone. I really want to keep him, but why should bad breeders profit from this as AKC registered ? He is not neutered and was thinking of studding him. thanks |

| First of all if he does not look like a purbred yorkie, then I would have hfim neutered. I doubt that you have any recourse at all against the breeder. When it comes to buying dogs, it is pretty much buyer beware. Without a DNA sample to prove who the parents are then you don't have much to go on. You aren't the only one that this has happened to it's a shame that breeders get by with this but unfortunately they do. Most buyers educate themselves too late. |

| Can you post pictures? We'd love to see your new baby whether you keep him or not. And breeders shouldn't be able to get away with this, but it is at our own risks. You should research anything you buy. I research computers, tv's, etc just to get information on the product and the company. It took me a year to buy Kodak. Most things that sound good are not and it's a shame there are so many dishonest people out here for profit.

| do you have akc papers? please post a picture. i have a yorkie-poo but all of them look different. some look more like yorkies. some look more like poodles. also, some vets know all about the health of a dog but not know anything about the breed itself.

| I know after having this dog a year, you probably dearly love him, and doesn't matter if he's part this or that, I'm kinda sure you wouldn't let the breeder have him back anyway. But we'd sure like to see some pics here. And I don't know if there is a way of testing to see or not if he's full bred, but if there is, go for tests. If he's not full bred AKC, I know you can get ahold of AKC and they may be able to revoke their AKC breeding rights (or something like that) for a while. Somewhere on this board, maybe in breeding secion (?) there is a stickie post that links to a website to check to see if their AKC has been revoked. |

| http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=297 Ah, there it is. They have a list of AKC breeders with suspended license! I think if he's not full bred, I would turn them into AKC if they don't refund your money. But seems you may have to prove he's not full bred, I don't know. I think akc's website is www.akc.org You can go there and contact them to see what you need to do to prove your dog isn't full bred. |

| dna tests can be done on the dogs to see if the parents are the actual parents i believe the akc has begun to require dna tests and id #'s on the male studs from breeders who have a certain # of litters or over per year why would the vet even say something like that espically if not asked for the opinion!! some may think that if you have a larger yorkie though just because size they may not look purebred

| Thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like it would be a mountain to climb to prove the breeder at fault or or to prove if my yorkie is not a yorkie. Probably best to have him neutered and keep him for a pet. Breeder doesnt answer the phone and its been a year since I bought him. Things do change. |
