| Need ideas to keep Phoebe safe! Hi there. Most of you know I have my adorable little Phoebe, 8 months old. We recently remodeled our family room into the school room (homeschoolers), but it's upstairs and has a wood rail. Phoebe is just small enough to fit through the rails and she loves to escape. I'm worried that she will poke her head out of the part that drops off and fall down and be killed. Very scary. I tried draping a quilt over that part but she quickly figured out how to move it aside. She has escaped through the part where the stairs are several times. Barring having boxes in front of the entire railing, I don't know how to keep her in! She's fine if we are ALL up here, but if someone goes down, she's curious. I was thinking there might be some type of netting people use on their decks or something? Obviously I don't want something ugly like chicken wire or anything. Maybe something mesh that I can tie on? Any ideas? thanks! deb |

| I would think you could purchase some kind of netting at a fabric store, or even just a cute fabric that you tie at each corner and then along the top and bottom (think how a bumper pad attaches to a crib) at various intervals would be good. Then you could change the fabric to match holidays or just get something plain....

| What about plexiglass? You could put sheets of it over the railing so you could still see through. I would put it ftom top to bottom..it won't compromise your view or the looks of your house but it will keep her from falling. I've had Yorkies chew through plastic baby gates, orange snow fencing and their toenails can get caught in the netting fabric of a playpen and they can chew through it also but I've never had one go through plexiglass! You could put it up with stick-on velcro and you wouldn't have to make any holes in your woodwork. |

My furkids Donating Member | Although netting would probably look better than anything else...she will chew through it...When I first brought Lillie home, she was 1.6 lbs. I bought 2 pieces of plastic latice...she could walk right through the holes like the latice wasn't even there...I had some nylon screen and taped in on the latice...this did the trick! of course she would find the smallest hole she could and work on it until she got through it...At this point I really wouldn't care about the "look" I would be more concerned about the puppy's safety...once she is a little older/bigger you could remove what ever it is you choose to use. Good Luck!

| Thanks everyone! Since she's 8 months old, she's not gonna grow a whole lot more, so I want to come up with a long lasting solution. I really like the plexiglass idea... and velcro. I'll have to run it by my hubby. I did find something called Railnet that is made for babies. But I didn't think of her chewing through it. Thanks again! She escaped at least twice today! I hate having to keep her on a leash in the house when I'm busy. She is starting to learn to stay with me, but we have some more training to do! Have a good night.... deb |

| We had a balcony overlook in our last house, and we used plexiglass on the railing. The balcony overlooked the family room and it was just too scary. We could still see down and it kept our yorkies safe.

| You could get an expen and just open it wide and then lay that against the railing.

| I had an escape artist - who would climb over the childs gate and Plexi glass did the trick. He would climb over the childs gate, jump over and go underneath and the plexi has stopped all those problems.
