| No disrespect 2 breeders or people who..... Sell puppies every once in a while as a hobby. I have questions for you because I read about this topic a lot on here. First let me post what I'm referring to, and then I will put my question last. Most of you post on here and on your websites: DO NOT PURCHASE A TEACUP, THERE IS NO SUCH THING.(which is understood after being explained standards). DO NOT purchase from someone that sells tiny ones. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TINY YORKIE, You state if someone trys to sell you one, refuse to buy. You state that tinies are subject to health problems, and will cost us more than they are worth. Ok, with all that being said, as a breeder, what do you do with your tiny ones? I hear at one point and time, a tiny one will be born even if past litters are bigger. Do you keep them all or do you refuse to sell them? If you say to buyers don't purchase them, would'nt you be stuck with a bunch of tinies running around? What do you do with them if you don't mind me asking? Shouldn't tinies or runts be the cheaper of the bunch since they are smaller, and may require us to spend more money on them? Not trying to ruffle any feathers, I'm

| Good question Different animal but I sell and raise rabbits and when a rabbit comes out smaller and not of standard I sell mine for less then half the price I sell the other ones for.. And that is good for a rabbit breeder because some of the other rabbit breeders I know....... how can I put this, put the rabbits to sleep, they don't even sell them for cheap just because they don't want anybody else to breed them, because the rabbits that small are too weak and no where near what the breed standard wants and it could ruin their name..

| See, I'm really confused, because one breeder I called went on and on about tiny this, tiny that. But as our conversation ended w/o a sale, she told me she had a tiny one that she could let go for around $1500, I was like . After giving me this spill about don't let anyone tell you about size, blah, blah, blah. When I said thank you for your time, all of a sudden she had one. In my mind I was like, dayum, does she have a bunch of tinies she randomly picks from to sell to certain people. I'm like WTH!

| The problem is that breeding just to get and sell tiny yorkies is wrong. People are just trying to get the information or word out there to try and avoid bad breeders from doing this on purpose and from people (public) wanting to buy these small dogs. It is a "Craze" right now ~ it is a catch twenty-two situation. People that breed for money will do their best to produce small yorkies and then call them "teacups" just to give a cute image for a greater demand- thus creating a bigger problem and the cycle continues. It has to stop somewhere to prevent any other female yorkie and pups from unneccessary death. Just take a look at the news Forum: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...684#post860684 Japan News. This is so sad and something has to be done. I have had small yorkies myself in the past that only got to 2.25 pounds and they were healthy, but I was not breeding to get these small ones. I had a 5 pound bitch and a 4 pound male and just happen to get a few small ones. Do I prefer them - no. You really have to watch them around the house since you don't want to accidently step on them or any of the yorkies. Just more damage can happen if they were to accidently get underfoot, etc... It is also harder on the vet to work on them - teeth cleaning, etc.. more of a risk. T. Last edited by topknot; 12-29-2006 at 03:28 PM. |

| I have noticed that there are alot of people searching for tiny yorkies. There is a certain mindset among some that the smaller the yorkie the better. You don't often see a post from someone looking for a pup that will be 6-7 lbs at maturity. I believe it comes back to the old supply and demand. A person can charge more for a tiny because they can get more for a tiny.

| I am a breeder... I am a breeder and I charge the same for all sizes. No one can guarantee any size that the dog will grow up to be. I bought 2 dogs from a lady who breeds. Her male and female were both 6lbs, so in theory, the pups would become 6lb dogs as adults. Nice breeding size right? Both the same size when I got them and one is Littlebit who is a whopping 2 1/2lbs and healthy as a horse and the other is Zoey 4 lbs who is very healthy too. So theory didnt work here in sizing. I personally have never had any problems with my pups that have been on the smaller side, but understand that some do as with bigger ones, it's just like humans, some are healthier than others. Its ok, I am not going to breed Littlebit or Zoey, and I love them whether they are 2lbs or 8lbs. I have a male and 2 females who put out some small ones that are very healthy, but I wouldnt call them 'teacups' to try to sell them. I do think that some people who are looking for dogs loosely refer to that term because that is how they know how to let someone know they are looking for one that will be smaller. But a breeder who advertises 'tinies or teacups' is just wrong! Breeders can only tell a person that this is how big the pups from their past litters have gotten to be as adults, if the person looking is worried about sizing. JMO Jill

| breeders charge more for tiny ones for one reason only and thats cos stupid people will pay more for them, they think they are cute, and its fashionable so if stupid people didnt pay more they would be the same price as other sizes. years ago the tiny one of the litter was called a runt and no one wanted them so they were priced cheaper but with brainless famous people strutting about with them these days have made people want them more than normal sized ones so the price of them have gone up. its such a shame that there are less people these days that dont just buy a dog cos they want to give it a home and love it with all there heart and dont care if its tiny big or got 3 legs and one eye. i love mine cos they love me, tye has 3 teeth and a wire coat, zac is slow and cant learn things properly with a wolly coat, and brandi was a rescue who was found on the streets and maybe she was chucked out cos shes a big girl and not breed standard so her pups wouldnt of made as much money but i dont care cos they love me with all my faults and i love them with theres.

| Unkind Aren't we being a little hard on some people here? Liking a small dog does not necessarily make one stupid, brainless, or female. Quote:

| I bred my 8 pound female to a 7 pound male. Got five pups. At four months, the smallest is 3 pounds and the largest 6. Go figure! The three in the middle all weigh about 4. So, how big will they all be when full grown? Who knows at this point. But, they all have wonderful, loving homes and that's all I wanted. |
