Crate sizes - advice, please We are having some trouble finding a workable crate solution for Riley. Everything we see at the store is too big. I took Penny's travel crate and put a box in the back to block off half of it, but she crawled behind. Then last night I made a "wall" out of cardboard and duct tape to reduce her area, but I have a feeling it won't last long. I know that other members here have run into the same problem. Riley is 11 weeks old and 2 lbs. What would you suggest? Oh, and we have looked at the metal-type crates with dividers but she depises that type of crate and goes nuts. And she thinks the only purpose of that type of crate is for peeing (pet-store mindset, I guess).

The best option would be a wire crate with a divider. Many of the Midwest models come with the divider panel..... What do you mean she "goes nuts" in the wire crate?? Have you tried covering three sides with a blanket or towel to make it more den-like?

The Midwest Fold & Carry Model 1622 is 22L x 13W x 16H and comes with a divider panel.... You can put the divider pretty much all the way up to the front door, I'm sure you could make it as small as it needs to be.

Thanks, Kelly. I found that one and one by Precision Pet that is 19x12x15. Hope we can get this to work. Do the crate designers not know how tiny our babies are? I'm sure the divider thing will make a huge difference. At least I know she can't crawl behind that and trap herself.

I really like Midwest's fold & carry crates... It's so easy to just collapse it flat and take it where we need to go. Once our dogs are trained (or at least don't potty in the crate anymore) they graduate from the smaller one to a one of the larger models where they have room for their bed, a couple safe toys and food/water with floor space to spare. It really works out well for us. Good luck. I hope the blanket trick works for you.... Try not to mangle the box too badly and keep your receipt so you can return the crate if you need to!
