| Take Woody to the Store? Do you guys take your yorkies to the stores with you? What about the stores that have posted that no animals or pets are allowed? I want to take Woody, my baby, shopping with me, but I am not sure what will happen if I take him in somewhere they don't want him. I have only had him about a week, so I am still new to a lot of things. Any suggestions? |

| It depends on the store. Target or Wal-Mart will kick your butt right out. Smaller, independent stores are usually more lenient. Do you have a purse to put your yorkie in? A lot of the dog carriers out there look EXACTLY like purses so if your dog is well-behaved enough you can get away with it. Sometimes, if I'm feel gutsy enough I'll just walk right into a store carrying Howie (Staples and Eckerd I've done this at). Butttttt, you said you've only had your yorkie for a week. Some considerations: it might be scared to death, if it isn't up to a certain point with all of the appropriate vaccinations it could get sick and if it's still a baby it can't hold it's bladder for very long and doesn't know how to tell you it has to go potty yet so chances are an accident is imminent.

| For the most part.. Layla stays in the car... it is hardly winter here and i put her heating disk in her crate and she naps.. however.. we are leaving for Florida tomorrow and while we are there... she will be coming in with us. I have a carrier that looks like a big pink purse... it is a fight to get her in there.. but once she is in.. she just naps... about every 10 min i sneak her a treat but otherwise i try not to draw attention to her. I also take off my jacket and drape it over the purse in such a way that it just looks like i'm trying to have a free hand.. i don't want it to look like i'm hiding something... layla is good as gold in the purse.. but we practiced around the house before we went to the mall.. i can't imagine anyone seeing her.. there are vents on either end.. but they aren't at eye level.. if someone asked me about her.. i'm not sure what i would do... part of me would wnat to have attitude.. tell the person she is not a pet but a memeber of my family.. the other part would just leave i guess i'll have to find out when the day come! good luck and practice lots before you take your pup into public. |

| As tempting as it is to take your baby out right now you could cause yourself a lot of problems. They need to have at least (IMO) 2 sets of shots first. Most of diseases out there are airborne and you don't want them exposed. And you don't know what kind of hygene people practice and if they have animals and if they are vaccinated. Vet bills are too high to take a chance just to tote them around. You have 10 to 15 years to do it. I wouldn't take mine out the house until he had his 2nd set of shots. The best place for them is warm in comfy at home. They need to get use to that first. God luck and enjoy! |

| Just tell them it is your seeing eye dog if you get caught......... No, but serioulsy, I wouldnt take your baby anywhere unless it has had all of its shots. If people see it they want to touch it and pet it and you dont know what they have come in contact with or if they have sick dogs or whatever. I especially wouldnt take them to Petco or those kinds of stores until they are completely vaccinated and even then I would never let them down on the ground. I know it is exciting to have a new puppy and you want to take it everywhere and let everyone see it but just be careful, you dont want to risk its life either. |

If any place posts that "animals and pets are not allowed" --- then, that's what they mean. Good luck - there are a lot of places our little dogs can go --- but sometimes "shopping" (depending on where you're going) isn't the time to take them. Carol Jean |

| I take Gracie into stores where I know it is OK, like Lowes, Home Depot, Bartell Drug, Michael's crafts. I scope out places when I don't have her with me, and if I see someone else with a small breed dog in a store, I will add it to my list and take Gracie there with me next time. She comes into the UPS store with me to get my mail. No one there has said a word. I would never try to take her into any store that sells food, or a book store where she could have great fun shredding if turned my back. When she was tiny, I took her everywhere in her Juicy bag. We got away with everything then. I found that using a carrier kept her from experiencing strange places on her own two feet. I finally ditched the carrier so she would get used to walking in strange places on her own power.

| I just took my Charlie to Michaels crafts and to Rite Aid yesterday and he wasn't all that quiet as he is getting use to carrier. No one said anything, infact the cashier at Michaels was quite taken with him. Just depends.

| I took Chewy into Walmart. I had him in a carrier that looked like a purse ( big one, i can't believe people think my purse would be THAT big but...!) I put the carrier in the cart, and throw a few items in to hide him, and when ever some one that works there comes my way I make a quick get away! No one noticed even when I paid... I prepare myself that I may get kicked out but who cares... What ever. i live an hour away from most stores... when i am in town I need to get stuff... if I bring Chewy he goes where I go!

| I take Debbie into stores all the time. She is small at three pounds and fits in her Petote bag with lots of room. This morning we had some work done on the car and went over to McDonalds for breakfast while we were waiting. The Petote sat next to me in the booth and I fed her little bits of hotcakes and sausage. No one noticed or if they did, didn't say anything. Sometimes I'll carry her into places without her bag, but I never put her on the ground to walk in on her own. I'll walk her almost to the door since she likes to walk but pick her up before we enter the store. I don't want her to have any accidents. She only rides in the cart while in her bag. Some people might object if my "dirty" dog was in the place where their children sit. Better to just conceal her in the bag so we don't have any problems. She loves to ride in the car but there is no way I would leave her in the car alone even when the weather is mild. Too easy for someone to break in and take her. |

| I know everyone loves their little dogs - and they are your little babies - etc. etc. etc. But - I think handfeeding any dog (that is sitting in a booth) at a public restaurant is way out of line. I (a real dog lover) wouldn't appreciate that. We have a great outdoor cafe where I live - and well-behaved dogs are allowed. But one rule is that dogs cannot be fed from people's plates. (You can get food for your dog though - if you want to order it..... this is a great and fun place to visit.) Carol Jean |

| My daughter works at a drive in Movie place...They have an indoor Cafe and they alllow dogs... Chewy sits next to me on my coat or a blanket... and not only do I feed him some of my food if it's something he can have, I give him his food and water! I really don't care what any one else thinks...

| I rarely take Pepper in anywhere. First, it's not fun for him to sit buckled in during the drive - he hates being closed in his carrier or even open car seat. And it's not fun for me to drive when he barks, whines and squeals. Then, he gets nervous being carried in stores and I can't really pretend I have a jumping and barking purse -the new design? LOL. Then there are those people, bumping into you, rushing, and how on Earth can you hold the carrier AND look at stuff? When I go shopping I like to unfold everything, have a close look and take my time... Doing it while balancing my jumping carrier IS NOT EASY and far from fun. For both Pepper and me. So, I take Pepper with me shopping if hubby goeas along and we take turns walking the dog around the store and going in. Oh, I take him to the bank sometimes -they don't mind at all, and pet stores, but I just walk him in...

I love taking abbie where I can; just haven't found many places where I can! But, if there is a sign saying "no dogs"; then I don't think it represents the dog community very well if we try to sneak in past the rules set by the store. JMO

| We used to take ours to Hardware stores and they got a lot of attention. Employees and customers both seemed to enjoy seeing them. After awhile we noticed that we are pretty much ignored by the employees except at the smaller family owned businesses. Our dogs were well behaved and we always held them so I don't know what changed. Because of this we dont take them anymore. We also used to take them to the post office and the employees loved them but now there is a sign on the door "no dogs". We don't take them because we want attention, but we just hate to always leave them home when we go somewhere that they can go.
