Default Will I own a Yorkie tomorrow? I need help??

Hello everyone! My name is T.J. and I am a soon to be Yorkie owner... so I'm sure I'll be asking for lots of help in the future. I'm meeting with a couple of breeders tomorrow and I have a couple of questions for you pros.

The first lady I'm meeting with is an older woman. She has been breeding for around 30yrs. The two dogs she is selling are 7 months old. The asking price is $800. The dogs are house trained, healthy, and current on all their shots. Here are my concerns...

- Is 7 months too old for the dog to form a close bond with me. I am worried that he may have formed such a close bond with his owner that he will not enjoy living with me.
- Also, $800 seems a little pricey for a 7 month old Yorkie. It is AKC registered and comes with papers confirming its champion bloodline. What do you think?

There are a couple of other breeders selling 12-15 wk old pups. They are priced from $600-$800 as well.

I am currently living in apartment where I will be able to give the dogs plenty of attention. The fact that the older dog is potty trained and has all his very expensive early shots is a bonus for me. I just don't know if he'll love his new home!?

Thanks!

I got Jaden when he was a year and a half, he was a former show dog that didn't like to show so his owners sold him. He looks just like a puppy and has bonded with me so incredibly fast! He follows me everywhere and loves being here. This is now his home and he knows that. I don't think 7 months is too old, they are still quite young and I am sure they will form a bond with you once he or she gets to know you. Some dogs are more cuddlers than others so it might depend on their personality too, some are naturally more independent and others just want to be with someone all the time.

If they are AKC registered with champion bloodlines 800.00 isn't too high of a price depending on their weight. It thay are really large yorkies then yes but if they are 3-4 pounds I'd say no. Jaden is AKC registered with 67 champions in his bloodline and his asking price was 4,500!

Best of luck to you with your new furbaby!!

I found this page on the AKC website: About buying a dog

One of the most important things you can do is feed your new puppy a healthy food. Watch the video "Truth About Pet Food".

Life's Abundance is a Premium Health Food for Dogs and my Yorkie loves it.

I dont think you'll have any probs bonding with him as long as you give him enough attention for the first few weeks and help him to enjoy his new home.

Good Luck either way - I'm sure you'll fall in love

Sorry, I hit submit accidentally before I was finished.

I wanted to add that my Monty is a rescue as well as my Lab Mix. We got him when he was a little less than a year old. He bonded with us and our Lab mix right away (and took charge of course)

Occasionally local animal shelters, humane societies and rescue groups will have Yorkies, as was the case with my Monty. AKC, registered, bloodline etc wasn't important to us, if those things are important to you I understand, but if they aren't you may save a lot of money and save a life as well.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas!

I am looking at an older puppy because I have a 17 month old and a 9 1.2 year old and od not want to go through the baby stage again right now. I think 7 months old is a good age, first you will have a much better idea of what she will look like and a lot of the hard work is done. But there is nothing like a little puppy either. I think you will know once you see them.

I don't think you'll have a problem with bonding!

We got Maddie in August and she's 3. She LOVES it here!

I don't feel 7 mo is too old at all, as a matter of fact I am purchasing another female. I am not picking her up until next month and she will be 7 mo old then.
$800.00 is not pricey for an AKC Registered Yorkie regardless of the age.
I am paying more then that. I paid alot more for my 20 mo old yorkie.
I would meet with the breeders and the dogs and see what fits with you the best. Also a little bit older dog will be/ should be potty trained.
I have adopted from the pound in the past and older dogs will still bond with you!

Good luck!! Have fun,
Michele & Bailey plus another one soon...

Awwww... I'm so excited! I'm meeting with her tomorrow at a local pet store. She has two male yorkies left. One is 5 pds one is 4 pds. It's going to be sooo hard to choose. My uncle is coming, maybe I'll just make him by the other one so they can still be friends! I'll post some pictures tomorrow if i get one

that is a great price for what you are getting. My little girl just turned one. i am thinking of selling her because she has turned out to be too small to breed and is very fragile at 3-1/2 to 4 lbs. IF, I sell her, her price will be 900. non negotiable. She is worth every penny and if some one thinks that is too high, then so be it. If everyone thinks it is too high, then I will just keep her because I am not lowering her price.

That is a good price for a yorkie that small and I wouldnt lower that price. If the timing were right I would buy her from you. My Husband wont let me have another one untill we move into our next house. I am wanting that size and know i will be paying a $1000 or more for her.

Yorkies bond with their new families very quickly. I got half of my dogs when they were nine months and older and the bond was almost instant. I think 800.00 is a steal depending on what they look like I guess. You should go for it and congratulations on your new puppies. Post pictures soon, we can't wait to see them.

They are not too old to bond. But I would have questions, why did she keep them so long, and why do you have to meet her at a pet store?

Also, just because a dog is house broke at one house does not mean he will be at your house. New home, new rules, they tend to have to learn all over again. Some people say they are house broke when they really aren't.
