| Pooping Everywhere Issue My baby girl is sixteen weeks now. She has been with me for the whole two weeks and seem to be fairly well adjusting to her new surrounding except for one thing - pooping. She came in to me trained to go on her wee wee pads. However, and I don't know maybe I totally confused her, she has never quite learned how to poop onto them as well. She has a full second floor to herself to ran around. So, initially, I put her wee wee pad in the corner of the living room on her floor for her to use. She consistently used it for peeing each and every time. With respect to pooping, she had approximately 3-4 different places, including the pad that she alternated. So, every morning before I left for work, I had a route of going over every one of her places to find and remove the waste. My boyfriend was not exactly happy with the process. He could not comprehend why Manya (that's my baby's name) would pee yet almost never poop on the pad. Anyway, pursuant to a recommendation from one of the people on this forum, I got two Purina litter boxes. The logic was that she should learn that her little toilet is not like the rest of the floor or the rugs because it is enclosed. The second thought was that she might not like to pee and poop in the same place, so she would have a chance to pick one for each. I placed one Purina litter box with her old pad inside on her old place in the corner and second one - in one of her regular pooping places. To make the long story short, Manya completely abandoned her old place in the corner. She does not pee there at all. More often than not, she uses the new Purina box place for peeing. I believe she is pretty consistent there with maybe a few peeing accidents at the beginning. However, she just refuses to poop in any designated areas. I am afraid that I completely confused her and now she will be pooping and peeing all over. HELP!!!!!!!!! |

| poop problems We first got Piper in September, and we kept him in a large tiled area, with a litter box and pad in it. He would pee in his box rather consistantly, but he would poop in various places. We came to realize, him being two pounds, that a 24x24 room is awfully big for a little guy, and we thought he might be losing his way, or so busy with other things, and too little to be responsible for his potty. So, Piper started to live in a 10x6 laundry room with a baby gate, and with much praise and treats (and crate training everywhere else with potty breaks every hour at first) he became very successful with his litter box. After about a month, we tried to give him the entire kitchen. But, he must have been too young. He got moved back to the laundry room. It has now been 3 months, and he is in the large kitchen, and so far successful. Your pup probably needs guidance before freedom, and the pups desire not to "go" where they have fun and sleep is strong enough to use to your advantage. I see that you are in Chicago--I am in the Naperville area, I am new to using this, but I hope that helps. I have read a lot of your questions. I would feed the pup at structured times, so that potty training is easier, you will see patterns develop. Piper likes to poop during morning eating (go figure), but at night by himself when I am sleeping. But, I know in the morning, not to let him loose without the pees and poops. Any questions, let me know! Good luck! |

| Well, if anyone has an answer to this please tell my Cody. He thinks daddy's office is just a dandy place to leave presents. Thank goodness we don't have carpet! |

| same problem here Dusty will go at night in his room on the pee pad but during the day even if I take him out every hour he will find the time to go under everyone of our beds. Someone told me to take his lease and conect it to myself and watch him for a couple of weeks. This way you are with him every min and he is not confined to his room all day. I think I will try this, heaven knows I have tried everything else.

| Your baby is still very young and I'm sure you'll go through a lot more with the potty training. Most puppies prefer to pee and poop in different places. It sounds like you're giving her quite a large area too - maybe reduce her free space until she starts getting it right.

| What I did was, leave a little piece of poop on the pad you want her to go on. Piper would return to smell it on her pad & go again. It takes a long time to fully train or to say they NEVER have an accident. Sometimes Piper will deliberately poop where she is at, & not on the pad. She is 9 months & I know she knows the difference, because she doesn't run to me for a treat. That is one thing she has always done. Misha my maltese hasn't had an accident since she was 5 months. I think sometimes Piper does it for attention. She hadn't done this for a couple of months. I went away for a weekend, & as soon as I came through the door with in 10 min, she poop on the floor. Hubby said she was punishing me for leaving her with him. LOL Good luck, she is very young & sometimes it takes up to a year is what I have read. |

| Chicagosoul, I agree that you may be giving her a little too much freedom right now. I had a small bathroom with a baby gate, and in the bathroom I put his food, bed and the box with pads inside. When it is a small area, they don't really have much choice but to go in the box. I put him in there whenever I couldn't keep my eyes on him. When I could watch him, I would take the gate down and we would play in the kitchen or bedroom or wherever, and I would periodically walk him back to the bathroom to see if he needed to go. That got him used to going to that spot from other rooms. Once he was trained to go in the box 100% of the time, I started moving it slowly, now it is in the closet and we finally have our bathroom back! That is what worked for me, but it was a slow process. Even though he was trained to pee on the pads when I got him, it took several months to get him fully trained on them. She'll get there, good luck! |

| Thank you Thank you, everybody, for your valuable insights. I have to say that this forum has been so responsive and so helpful. I hope we will keep up the good deeds fro future generations as well To the Piper's mommy, I want to say that I noticed this cry for attention in the form of pooping where she is not supposed to as well in Manya's behavior. My boyfriend just recently told me that he was too busy to play with Manya during his break from work (he is working from home) that once he was done with the work and went downstairs at the end of the day to play with Manya, she pooped on the rug in front of his very eyes. She has not done something that atrocious before So, I guess, being a true female, she wanted to teach her man a lesson or two on how she was supposed to be treated. It's quite interesting, I've had different dogs all my life when I was a kid, never yorkies, though. What I notice, however, is that these little babies have hell of a lot of personality and temper in comparison to some other breeds. My other dogs were smart too, but these guys ljust learn soooooo fast. I can't believe that they can't get the pooping thing understood. Maybe, to a smaller extent, it's their age, but, to a larger, I believe, it's their personality talking and training us on how they are too be treated. Too funny! |
