| Ok i did it scheduled his appointment My baby will be nuetered on 12/28 im so nervous i know he will be fine but still he's my little baby. I noticed some people wrote on here that they put onesies on their furbabys to keep them from picking at their stitches. How about if they have to use the bathroom what do you do they would just soil themselves i am guessing? What advice do you have for me on after nuetering him to make him feel comfy and at ease. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

| I bought a onsie to use at night...she sleeps with me and if she needs to use the bathroom at ngith she wakes me up up to take her off the bed. But she didnt need to use the bathroom that night and the next day she was fine and i didnt notice any licking or scratching. I got a reallly cute one in old navy for 3-6 months and it was not even 3 dollars on sale. It was a little loose on her but dont get anything tight so hes comfy and doesnt try to get it off |

| My vet said it was fine for them to lick their stitches because their saliva is sterile. You just have to watch out and make sure it doesn't get red or infected. My vet recommended Neosporin if I saw it start turning red. Neutered only takes a couple of minutes. It is such a quick and easy surgery. I know when I picked Hobbs up from the vet after being neutered, he didn't even act like he had had surgery! Don't worry...he'll be fine and everything will be over with before you know it. |

| I don't know if you use wee wee pads or not? I can't help if you do you wee wee pads b/c I was going to recommend using preemie baby or dog diapers to keep him from pulling his stitches. I know that some vets will sell you an Elizabethan collar (picture a satelliate dish with a head in the middle of it) to go around his neck. The collar idea might work if you use wee wee pads. I posted on one of your previous messages about friends for animals it is a non-profit organization that sell spay/neuter certificates so that altering your pet is more affordable. I would recommend looking and seeing if your vet particiates. The certificates take about a week or less to come. I use the certiciates for all of my animals. It saves me a little money and they also go to their normal vet. Win-win situation. I had my golden neutered a few weeks a go and he was fine afterward a little loopy but fine. Picture a 100 lbs dog that can't walk a straight line. He never touched his stitches. Hope this helps. |

| i cannot picture my baby with a satellite dish he he Yeah my baby sleeps on his bed on the floor and he does use a wee wee pad, wouldnt it be better for the stitches to get air cause if i put a diaper it might keep it moist with urine i think i will just keep him on his bed Quote:

YES! It is better for his stitches to get air and it is fine for him to lick his stitches, too. The only time you'll have a problem is if he tries to bite out his stitches. This is very unlikely, though. I would just hold off on the onsies, diapers, satellie, ect. until you get him home. If he doesn't try to bite his stitches out then everything will be perfectly fine. | |

| I would only use a diaper if he did bother the stitches. I have previously used diapers but my dogs go outside to go the bathroom so it was a lot of on and off. A diaper would not work for you since you do you wee-wee pads would send your pup the wrong message. You could put some triple antibiotic or neosporin plus in his suture lines to prevent infection as well. |

| I used a onsey on Rocky. When I brought him outside to go potty I just took it off of him. If I was busy and unable to watch him 100% I kept it on him so he couldn't mess with the wound.

| I remember when Simon got neutered, he was so pitiful for a few hours!!! Then it was like nothing had happened. I had to stop him from playing and jumping all over the place. They bounce back quick Simon never licked himself either but the onesies are a great idea! |

| My little guy really didn't lick his stitches. I think I caught him starting to do it once or twice and quickly interested him in something else - like a bite of chicken. Murphy came home from the vet - ate a hugh meal - and then went to his bed (which he loves) and slept the rest of the day away. The next day, it was like he had never had anything done. The only thing that bothered him at all was when I picked him up -- I had to be careful not to hold him near the area where he had had surgery. Other than this, the second day - he was outside running and playing and visiting the neighbors like nothing had ever happened. ****** If I were you - put the onsie on him ONLY if he is persistent licking or bothering his stitches. He may not do this at all - and, if he does it only occasionally like my dog did - perhaps you can just distract him rather than put clothes on him. If he does need to wear something - just take it off occasionally and take him outside or let him do whatever he usually does...... Good luck! You are a responsible pet owner to have gotten your little male neutered. He will live a much happier and healthier life because of this. Carol Jean |
