| Possible new addition to the family! Ok, so I just got home from work and my fiancee asked me what I wanted for my wedding gift...he needs ideas. Of course, my first words were "I want another puppy!!" He laughed and asked what kind seeing as how we do have labs that live outside so he doesn't know. I told him that I am a Yorkie kind of girl and want another one! He then asked me why and my reply was that Zeta needs a companion...hehe I blamed it on her that I needed (wanted) another one. He just isn't sure that with us being newly-weds that I would be able to spoil another one like I have Zeta spoiled. I just don't believe that! I can spoil anything! How different is it to have two little babies around? I would die to have another one but if he is right, I would rather wait...what are your opinions?

| I'd have another one in a heart beat if my hubby would let me!!!! Two means twice the fun! I'm sure more responsibility...but I'd be willing!

| I am a newlywed, too, and I have PLENTY of time to spoil 2 yorkies!!!!!!!!! There are so many many advantages to having 2: they keep each other company, more yorkie kisses, more to love, Zeta will have a playmate, ect. ect. ect. The one and only one disadvantage I can think of of having 2 yorkies is the vet cost. The food and toys expense won't be that much more because they will share toys and they are so tiny that the extra food won't make that much of a difference. But you'll have double the vet expenses....puppy shots, spay/neuter, ect. If you think that you won't have a problem with the extra vet bills, then I say GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!! It so much fun having 2 and now I don't feel so guilty when I have to leave them at home for a little while bc they definately keep each other company. |

| Well after getting a PM last night about how I am an irresponsible pet owner because I have labs that live outside in our FENCED IN BACK YARD I seriously thought maybe it was a bad idea to get another dog. Then, when I woke up and took Zeta out for potty time and watched them all play, I just couldn't see how I am a horrible person. They are all happy dogs and equally spoiled and played with. The best part is that they all love each other. Our labs weigh about 50 pounds (They are all MUSCLE and can take me down )and they are so gentle with Zeta when we go outside. They all share toys in the back yard and our male even walks with Zeta to make sure the female doesn't play too close and squish her...its so cute! Besides, you all are right...the more the better...I can't get enough of my little Zeta (or Smokey and Missy)! Having another one will be just as much fun around here! As for the vet bills, that comes with the territory. We breed our labs so I am well aware of huge vet bills and how they can get. But, I love it...I love all of our pets! So, that wont be a problem!

| some people have no manners! I dont understand why someone would PM you and tell you that you are a bad person for having your Labs outside. Labs love being outside and I am sure when it is cold and nasty you have a nice warm place for them to stay. It seems like some people have never learned that if you dont have something nice to say then dont say anything at all. Now-here is something nice--I think having 2 dogs is easier than 1. I have several. I breed Yorkies and I think that if there is just 1 then they get so lonely when you arent around. Just like humans, that is why God made Eve, to keep Adam happy and busy. haha! Yes you need 2.

| It is sooooo wrong that someone pm'ed you and told you that!!! I don't think having labs outdoors makes you irresponsible. I just got a second one about 4 months ago and it isn't woking for me. My male is soooo jealous of her. Imo it is alot more work with two. but with that said keep in mind I HAVE A DIFFICULT BOY. Last edited by Shadow; 12-11-2006 at 09:35 AM. |

| It is good to hear that not everyone thinks I am horrible Tends to lift the spirits. So, as for the addition...I think I am winning the debate! The fiancee looked at me today and told me that I can LOOK for another baby! So, in my head...looking=we are gonna buy!! YAY So, now I just have to find a new baby! We got Zeta from a family that received her for a Christmas gift and didn't have enough time to take care of her like the queen she now knows she is. She was reasonably priced and came with almost everything she needed..hopefully I can get lucky again on finding the perfect baby (He/She can come with nothing but a need for a home and I will be happy)! So, wish me luck!

| I too, am appalled that someone would PM you and tell you that you are irresponsible for keeping labs outside. But then I grew up on a farm and understand all manner of animals, both inside and outside. Labs are definitely outside dogs - although I'm sure that some love being in the house! Anyway, I had Rowdy a year before I got Rexy and I can tell you that I'm sorry I didn't get Rexy sooner. They are such good friends and wonderful companions. The joy you get from having a Yorkie is doubled and I truly believe that they do better in pairs as someone mentioned earlier. I think it really is better for them to have another Yorkie to grow up with!!! Good luck in your search.

I am very interested in the answers to the original question as i too am thinking of getting another!!! But im scared that Pippa will love me less!!! I know that sounds selfish but she follows me everywhere(even to the loo) is always under my feet ,sleeping in my bed,on my lap etc....would she change if she had another little friend and not need her mum so much??

Many years ago we too raised labs. We had them in field trials -- they loved the outdoors, the freedom to run and play. They are not little house pets -- that would probably make most of them miserable. Don't let the PM get to you -- different breeds need different things. Wish a lifetime of happiness to you all!
