| What Would You Do I am not sure what to do...i would like some advice... I bought my little boy at 8 weeks, with the intention of showing and later on breeding....the lady that i got him from seemed to be nice, but had 2 litters, and another one on the way... I have been in contact with her since i bought Mac, he is now 10months old..he is very small, he is just under a kilo, about 2lbs, and he only has one testicle, and he has retained his baby teeth. My vet thinks that it would be a good idea if maybe they run a series on blood tests on him, liver, kidney, and growth hormone before anything more is done...his teeth need to be removed, and he needes to be castrated for sure. I have been in touch with this lady, and she has said to me that i should return to dog to her if i am not happy, and she will give me my money back, i told her that is not a option as i love this little dog, and he loves me, why would i want to do that to him now.....and anyway, he stills needs to have these tests done...i have asked her for half of my money back, as he is just going to be a pet now, and showing and breeding is also no longer an option. she basically said that a monorchid dog is fine to use, and that there is nothing wrong with him and my vet is just seeing pound signs, and that she has nothin more to say to me, and that is her decision, and that is final... She has litter after litter after litter, everytime i have rang her, their has either been a litter, or one about to have a litter....i am really worried about the whole thing...its a nitemare. can anybody offer any advice...

| Just a question. Does this woman have show dogs. If not, you should probably not expect to get a show quality dog from her. You can't just buy any dog and show it. One testicle will disqualify them from the show ring, and his size surely does not make him a candidate for breeding. If she were interested in the breed, she would not encourage you to breed him I guess you have to chalk it up to experience. Live and learn. Get the little guy neutered, and research your breeders before you purchase a dog for show. Get to know the breed better so you know what to look for. YT is a good place to start. With all of those litters at one time, I doubt that she is breeding for quality. Not that, that makes her a bad person, just not a show breeder. |

| Yes her mother use to show, but she has never done it...she breeds them for a living...(her words not mine) he is registerd with the KC, which would allow me show, however, my vet thinks that there could be some inter breeding, mother and son etc...

| If she is breeding for a living, then she is not interested in the quality of the puppy, only the quantity. Just because her mother showed, does not make her a show breeder. I hope your little guy passes all of his tests. Do you have a health guarantee? The sad part is, if you give him back to her she might resell him. |

| Unfortunately since she did offer to return your full purchase price on return of the dog, there is probably little else to do. In the US most states have some sort of Pet Lemon law -- but those are usually limited to problems in the first 10-30 days after purchase and only include diseases or conditions that affect the health of the animal. Not being able to show or breed doesn't seem to be covered. She is right that a monorchid is usually CAPABLE of breeding but from everything I have been reading, they should NOT be bred so that future complications can be avoided (not sure what those complications are though -- I am in learning/absorption mode). It is also genetic and the tendency should not be increased in the gene pool. I wonder why they don't just do the surgery to let the little thing descend. They do that on humans. Anyway.... I would just have the little guy neutered, spoil him and love him!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I can't offer any help on the testicles but have read many times - when someone wants show quality they wait till the puppies are much older - there is no way to tell at the age you bought your yorkie - and there are many breeders out there that will tell you only what you want to hear.... I decided since you posted about how many puppies this woman has - they don't need to be called breeders - but the word GREEDER came to my mind. That's alot of puppies and there's no way she's breeding for quality with that many litters. I hope you didn't pay an outrageous amount but if you did - I would just be happy if he's healthy at this point. |

| Rocky also was cryptorchid (one testical) and they definitly need to be nuetered! Not only to prevent them from reproducing, but if that testicle never drops (and if it hasn't yet it probably won't), it can cause cancer in your baby. Does your breeder not know that? There are many sites about this, and tons of information on this site a lone. Get some references about the cancer, and how this negatively affects the pups health. Show it too her, then see what she has to say. Maybe even call her vet and see what they say...would she go against what her own vet says? Then find out what she is selling the pet quality pups for, and ask for a refund so you only pay what she charges for them. I hope all works out for you. Despite what happens with this ignorant breeder, atleast you got yorkie love out of this!

| Was there a disclaimer or guarantee before purchasing, and can this breeder be investigated? Is there an animal control center in your area that you can report her to? How come no one mentions the breeders names or websites to warn others not to purchase from them? Good luck with your little one.

| Thanks for all your replies...i have been down the road of a retained testicle can turn cancerous, she knew this little guy had problems then, but each time she has said ohhh dont worrry, and fobbed me off.....i really thought she was a nice lady...she knew when he was 14 weeks that i was worried about him, because only one could be felt.... There is no way i would give him back, he is my little baby, and it would break my heart, i paid a good price for him, but, i have spoke to people in certain places shall i say....and she is not a licenced breeder, so i will say no more on that... I will just go along with what the vet says i think, but i am soooo worried that he may not survive surgery..he is just dinky....this lady gives good breeders a bad name...having said that, i have taken him along to dog tranning and some of the people there have said that they would get rid, and get another one...its a funny game this showing, but i would not sell him for a million....
