| Hawk near Jerome This morning, like every morning, I got up to let Chiquito and Jerome out to pee. I go out with them every time, but today I wanted to use the bathroom too, so I decided to go real fast while they relieve themselves and chase one or two squirrels, so I'm in the bathroom and hear Jerome barking and thought to myself, he's chasing a squirrel, so I hurried b/c I don't want my neighbors to be annoy by the barking specially on Saturday mornig that some people like to sleep in. I opened the door and OMG !!!! Jerome is barking at this huge hawk!!!! and then I don't see Chiquito!!! so I start lookng for him and If I didn't want to wake up my neighbors I sure did after I satrted looking for Chikis and Jerome kept barking at the hawk, so I grabbed Jerome and the hawk just looked at us like what are you guys doing? didn't move or do anything of course I'm sooooo scared and I don't see Chikis anywhere until I go around the house and there he is taking a poop!! what a relief!!!literally for him and for me too, so I grab Chikis and go inside the house and look out to see if the hwak was still there and yes, he was still there on the tree on one of the lower branches close to where Jerome was. It scared the hell out of me!!!!! I'm glad my babies are ok and that big bird didn't find my babies attractive, but it really sacred me a lot.

| OMG -- that is one of my greatest fears. I let all of mine out at one time hoping they will intimidate in numbers and I still stand there waiting and watching the sky and trees. We have some that start circling and then I hustle the "kids" inside as quickly as possible. We have these ugly turkey vultures that do the same thing. Those things are huge! My mom had an eagle in her yard. She was afraid for her dogs but also very intrigued by the eagle. Don't see them everyday! I have been thinking of some sort of pole with streamers that might keep these guys away but don't know if it would help.

| This spring we are planning on putting a nice fence out back so the little ones can go out directly from the back door without being carried or leashed to the other fence, but with all this Hawk and Owl talk, it's scaring me to death!!! We live in the country and have Hawks, Owls, AND the Turkey Vultures. I guess I'll just take the shotgun out with me whenever we go. I don't care if they are protected or not. My babies will be protected, that's for sure!!!

| What a close call! I'm so glad your babies were safe. For those of you who have hawks, maybe an idea would be a doggy-run with a roof over it, so if anything atleast there is a barrier that the hawk can't get to them. I haven't seen anyhawks yet around here looking at Rocky, but we do have them in this area.

| Is it Hawk season? I know they are supposed to be protected.....but dang. I'd sure get me a pellet rifle! Years ago my brother had a nice pellet rifle, one you pump up. It can sure kill a squirrell, so why not a hawk? They don't make the loud noise of a gun either (that way you don't draw neighborhood attention to shooting a hawk). But you have to be a good shot, or they have to be close. If I see one in my neighborhood, I will be at the sporting goods place like yesterday! They also carry those target practice things. And I know I'm a decent shot! But with my small yard, unless its in the yard, could drop in a neighbors yard (oops). Many years ago, my brother had a gun that shot bb's and pellets. We used to shoot targets with the bb's for practice, and he used the pellets for hunting (he was too young for a rifle). I don't mind going to jail, as long as I come home to 2 live dogs! |

Well, with the right type of shotgun, won't have to worry about disposing of the hawk! | |
