| Pet boarding? Hi Guys, I'm going to Vegas with the family mid December. This will be the first time we are all away from Peanut. I don't know what to do! We have no family nearby that can help take care of him, and I don't really think my friends and coworkers can take care of him so close to the holidays. Are there any good pet boarding places you guys use near Southern California? Does anyone have any good or bad reviews on Petsmart's Hotel? Peanut goes potty outside, will this disrupt his pattern when we come home? The fact that no one will be able to bring him onto the grass when he needs to go? If I decide not to board him, and just give him free reign of a section of the house, do you all think this is a bad idea? I would have my friends come over to feed him, and take him out to potty. And I would have all his bed supplies, toys, etc inside too. But then again, Peanut loves to potty all the time... I'm not sure my friends could come over every few hours.... Help! Any advice would be great!! ~Peggy |

| How long are you going to Vegas for? I boarded Buddy at 1 1/2 years for 3days. I wanted him to get used to it just incase I had too. Unfortunately a week after he became very sick. I still am not sure if he picked up something from there. He was hospitalized for 4 days and because they could not give me a direct answer I will not board him again. My daughter in law babysat for her neighbor's dog in their home for a week. She feed and walked the dog several times a day and played with him. He was fine staying in his own home. She left some lights on at night for him. That might be a better thing to do if you have the friends to help you. Have fun with you family. Carol & Buddy |

| Have you checked your groomer and your vet to see if they board. When Chachi and Jewels were boarded at my groomers it wasnt like they were boarded. She kept them inside her home. My Vet was very leary when I told him they would be boarded because dogs can pick things up at boarding facilitys

| I have been boarding mine since they were 5 months old. I think it helped socialize them to be honest since their boarder lets them play with the other dogs. Since the move I've been forced to find a new boarder in Ohio. My recommendation is to look up places near you and call them with any questions you might have: - How often they take them outside - If they walk them or give them play time indoors - If you can bring along some of their own blankets and toys - If they will stick with your feeding schedule - How they handle emergencies (through your vet or another) - What kind of shot requirements and spay/neauter requirements they have. If you feel comfortable with their answers ask if you can stop by to see their facitilty. Make sure it is clean and that they clean the pens after every dog stays there. Also, make sure your little one has a boardatella (sp?) shot to avoid kennel cough. I'm sure you'll find a good one in your area, but it'll take a day or two to screen them. |
