| Introducing a new family member to Moe Hello everyone! I will be getting my baby girl Yorkie, and I wanted to try and get ideas for the best way to introduce her into Moe's world without pushing his nose too far out of joint. He has been attached to me at the hip for the whole of his life and has been spoiled completely rotten. I always wanted a female to spoil and pamper, and for those of you who know the story..I ended up with a LiL boy instead...but he needed me..and I needed him..so it worked out.I want this girlie to be his friend as much as my friend, he has no one his size to play with, and before he knows it, I will be back to work...so she can be his little companion while mommys not home.I won't be leaving for work immediately, and when I do it wont be full time to start.....so no worries...they will have plenty of mommy for the introductions.I just need to find ways of introducing them that allows Moe his Kingship and brings the new one in as his Queen. LOL

| New Arival draws near ok so far I havnt heard from anyone as to any good ideas for introducing them ..I get the baby girl on SATURDAY! Gosh I am sooo excited. She is 15 months old and just a little yorkie, not a tea cup but still a smaller one.She is tan with silver..so very pretty. I am driving with my husband 114 miles to get her on Saturday, were taking Moe with to see how they get on. I have a secondary question to the original of whats the best way to introduce them...she is 15months they call her Poppy, I am wanting er name to be Precious, is it too late to change her name? Or will she adapt to a new name?

| No its not too late to change her name . For a few days , called her Poppy Precious so she will relate to it after you'll only called her Precious . When I rescued Sibelle , her owner was only calling her " The Dog " , she was very intrigued when I began to call her Sibelle . Poor little one , she was looking everywhere when she heard Sibelle . Now , she is ok with her name . |

| Congrats on your new baby!! We just went through this a couple of weeks ago...we brought our little Sophie home and I was so fearful that Topher would be upset. He has been my shadow since February and we had quite a nice little routine down....oh, I was so nervous that he would be upset. Well, perhaps we've just been lucky or perhaps we did something right..lol...maybe it's a combination of the two, I don't know, but it's been a wonderful experience thus far and getting the second yorkie has been the BEST experience. When we went to get the puppy, we took Topher with us 'cause we really didn't have a choice..I actually think it was a good thing, because neither my husband nor myself were the ones bringing the new pup INTO our home...we were all doing it together. I'd heard before that the older pup might resent the person bringing in the new pup (not sure if it's true, but it does make sense!) We haven't done anything special...really...but there is one thing that we are doing and that's making sure that Topher is the first to get the treats, etc. We really make an effort to ensure that he's getting enough attention. If I pick up Sophie for a snuggle, I pick up Topher, too. What one gets...the other gets. Basically, just as if they were children! I've also tried to take a little bit of time each day for just Topher and I...just so that he knows he's still mom's boy. Funny thing is...when we've done this he's always ended up going and looking for Sophie...lol. I also made sure that Sophie had her own toys, blankie, etc. I didn't want Topher to think that the new little one was taking over his things. They will decide when they want to share...or if they want to! I hope things go well for you. Just relax and enjoy. They might have a few rough moments, but they'll hopefully be few and far between. If they do seem to not like one another, I don't think that you need worry that it'll last...after a few weeks it'll be like there were always two and they'll grow to love one another. I'm NOT an expert, but if you need any suggestions or help, just pm me and I'll help as much as I can. Again...congrats on your new baby~~~HOW EXCITING!!! |

| Congratualtions! A new Yorkie, how wonderful! I `ve read (The Yorkshire Terrier, by Deborah Wood, et al.) that you should introduce them in a neutral place such as out on a walk, or in the park. Then make sure to give the first baby just a much attention as always, or yes he will feel left out! Enjoy your new sweetheart!
