| Please share your yorkie scam stories. Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum, and I love all the questions and answers while reading. I purchased my yorkie 2 years ago and was leary of shopping online for a dog. It was hard to find yorkies in Illinois and some of the ones I did find did not look right. Don't get me wrong, there are some cute mixed breeds out there, but I wanted a full blooded, registered puppy. I am now on the hunt for a little girl and I have a few friends looking to buy one. We have literally visited hundreds of websites between us. Now we are hearing horror stories of scams. Can you all share some of the scam stories with me so I can pass them on?

| Any thing that has to do with Nigera is a scam and also payment by western union. I would call my vets first and see if they know anyone with pups. That was how I began the hunt for my dog.

| Thank u, I will try some of the vets around here and local pet stores. I have heard the I'm moving to Africa and need to sell my yorkie story. I had one girl in college email me to say she sent $400 to this lady and didn't hear anything for weeks. After she requested an investigation thru her internet service, the seller admitted she had no puppies for sale. She said she needed the money to help feed her kids.

| You do have to be careful. I bought a 18 month old bitch through puppyfind. I wanted a companion for my 6 month old dog and didn't want to start all over with potty training. The lady and I e-mailed back and forth quite a bit and than I sent her the payment through paypal. There were little hints that things weren't right but I didn't see them until after the fact. Before the plane even landed the lady called me to inform me that she had lied. She'd adverised the bitch as spayed when she was not and offered to refund me $75. for my trouble. I agreed since the girl was already on the way. She arrived so sick and all drugged up. With in a couple of days she was in the hospital. The lady said I could send her back but she never would have survived the flight. She didn't look like she was supposed to, she was scared to death of men, and she had a bowel obstruction. We finally got her well, I found out from another breeder that she's a redleg, and though men still scare her she's tolerant of my husband. On the up side, she's the smartest dog I've ever known, she'd go through hell just to be with me, and she's brought color and strength into my line. We've learned alot together over the years, my Roxie and I. I wouldn't trade her for the world! Moral to the story, you just never know what you're going to get when you buy sight unseen on line.

| Wow, that is unbelieveable, it's almost as if she were trying to get rid of the dog knowing she had problems. Thank God that you were the one to get her and save her. You learned things from that experience and it helped out everyone in the end. Hopefully the seller learned a valuable lesson to.

| Another place to look for referrals is the better Grooming shops. That is where I found the card of a lady in my area that breeds beautiful Yorkies. In fact, I had not taken a card when I first saw them, but remembered them when we started looking. I called the grooming shop and they knew which one I meant and gave me the number.

| i advertised my puppy online but sold it to a YT member in the long run. i will advertise the litter I just had online also. I am well aware of all the scams out there and they are getting so smart that sometimes it is just impossible to know. My husband sells beagle puppies online and believe me, the scams can go both ways. I had already heard of the scams when we first started getting them. Anyway, i don't know how close to kentucky you are but mine will be ready about the middle of Feb. You can pm me for more info if you think you might be interest. Not trying to turn your thread into an advertisement for me. there are plenty of excellent breeders on here. The Illinois just kind of jumped out at me. |

| There are so many breeders, EVERYWHERE. Why put yourself in the situation to be scammed, when you don't even have to? I'd look for breeders within driving distance (whatever that might mean to you. Five or six hours would be my personal max, but others drive further.) There are breeders here on YT that I would trust, otherwise, it's safest to buy a dog from a local breeder, with references from sources you trust. I live in a small town, and was still able to find a breeder who would let me come to her house (multiple times), interact with her, her family, and all her dogs, see how they were raised, observe their temperaments, and final money was exchanged as I picked up my dog to take it home with me. The price was right, but more importantly, the EXPERIENCE was right. I wouldn't trade it.

Yes, I know. They come from everywhere these people do and always end up in Nigeria. When you adverstise for a puppy they get your email address and email you directly. I've been very cautious and have noticed that when they email you they don't type very well at all. Every sentence has ok after it or waiting on your response. I even got a guy out of California that did this to me yesterday and he wanted me to rewire the money to Nigeria. These people are crazy.

| This is so true. The last 3 people that wanted me to buy from them all ended up in Nigeria and wanted payment by western union.

| Hi Thanks for the replies, I am passing these stories on and was just told about a seller who kept making the statement to "call my pastor" as a way for a buyer to trust them. I wonder why a sting isn't set up so they can catch where this money is being wired to. There should be a way to catch these people, they are making a lot of money off of poor unsuspecting yorkie lovers. Someone should do a story on the news to let the public know this is happening.
