| Size of Yorkies We have an adorable Yorkie named Sophie who is now 7 months old. However, she is now at 12 lbs (weighed by Vet when spayed). The breeder told us she would be under 10. Also, her ears never went up even though we had them shaved. I have no problem with her size, but I didn't know they got this big. She is all black long hair (thick) on her back and down part of her legs and Golden color on her entire face, under chin and lower part of her legs and top of her head. I will post a picture later. She is very solid and sturdy looking and fast as a speeding bullet. Does anyone else have a larger Yorkie. She is an AKC registered Yorkie. Sophie's Mom |

| Piper, she is a mix, but weighed in at 7.4 at the vets last week. The breeder told me she wouldn't reach 5 lbs. Pipers parents are at 5 lbs supposedly. Her mother a Yorkie & her father a maltese. She towers over our Maltese, Misha.I still love her to death, but I am disappointed she's bigger than Misha. |

| Your babies coat sounds familiar. I have a pup out of our last litter who looks more like a sheepdog than a yorkie. She's the cutest thing and much loved by her family. At 5 monthes old she weighs 6.5 lbs. but looks bigger due to all the hair! She looks like neither her dam or sire but she's a joy. We call her the yorkie sheepdog!

| Welcome to YT. can't wait to see pictures of your little "teapot". I'm so glad that you love her just the way she is. so many people get so hung up on size. the poor little darlins are what they are, and they can't help their size. Congratulations. |

| Welcome to YT! I have a big yorkie girl weighing in at 12lbs. Her name is Sophie too. She too has floppy ears and her coat sounds just like what you described. She was supposed to be 5-6lbs. We where shocked at how big she got but love her so much it just doesn't matter. She has the best personality ever. I look forward to seeing pictures of your Sophie.

| I have heard of some big Yorkies, like some of the other members have said. As far as your babies ears are concern, we do not shave our babies ears because we love the floppy ear look. All Yorkies are beautiful, we just like the floppy ear look. |

| I dont see anything wrong with a pet being below or above standards for weight, ears, coat. But I do not like it when breeders lie about the size, etc. You know even if you see both parents & are impressed, if they dont run a tight ship other dogs can also breed their female & father pups which effects the pups looks, size, etc. They should try harder to see things like that dont happen & they should be honest about everything & change prices accordingly. For a pet fine, but a breeder or shower it wouldnt be ok. I love all dogs, but wouldnt enjoy being lied to & over charged for a dog I could have bailed out of the pound for $60. Even though you wouldnt take a thousand cause you love them oversized & all Last edited by rachelsyorkie; 11-25-2006 at 06:02 PM. |
