| Retained baby teeth Hi all... Phoebe will be 7 months old on the 20th (can you believe it?) she has doubles on two of her upper and two of her lower teeth. I was so hoping I wouldn't have to deal with the teeth pulling at the vet. But it sounds like I should get her in there right away? What are some concerns I should have and questions to ask my vet? I am very nervous about if they have to put her to sleep to do it. But I know these teeth have to be taken care of. Thanks in advance for CALMING this stressed out mommy! Deb |

| hey Deb, Annika is getting a couple of her teeth pulled as well . . and yes they need to be put to sleep. I had concerns and my VET has assured me they will take very good care of Annika but like any surgery there is a very slim chance of her not waking up I started a thread under my yorkie "Annika has grown" so check her out and see how much she weighs now. I was jumping with joy when I saw her being weighed. |

| Don't worry mommy she'll be okay Lillian had her baby teeth pulled also. Is she spayed? If your considering spaying her you might want to have them pulled at the same time so you don't have to put her under twice. |

| Rocky had to have 13 teeth pulled. The little stink would not lose any on his own. He had to be put under for it, but he came out of okay. The vet even said he wanted to dry food right afterwards, but of course they did not give it to him. |

| Yuki had to have 4 teeth pulled. When I initially took her to get spayed the vet told me to come back in a month to see if any of her teeth had fallen out on their own. Nope! I took her back a month later when she was 7 months and the vet spayed her and pulled her teeth. I got her extra meds for the pain and she was a bit groggy the first couple of days, but she was fine! I was really worried at the time too but everything went perfectly. Your baby will do great! |

| My baby also needs to have 6 teeth removed. But, I'm very concerned about the anesthesia. Good luck |

| they only put them under if they are scared or struggle or something like that baby teeth have no roots they aren't really set in the gums they just pull them right out. truffle has 2 that need to come out. my sisterinlaw will hopefully do it for me. she works at the local vet's office we had no problems with doing princess's teeth.

| my girl had 4 teeth pulled along with her spaying. Wow, I think the teeth pulling hurts more than her spaying and she was miserable over the weekend. Make sure you get pain meds, soft foods (I had her on baby food on day 1-2, then soaked her dried kibble in water or had the crumbled canned food). ask about the types of stitches used (the ones that dissolves or had to be taken out) after a week, she was completely back to normal. Then more baby teeth came in at about 9 months of age and those fell out by themselves. I think the ones that were pulled were 4 canines. Our vet told us because they didn't fall out on their own, they caused a slight underbite and tons of stinky breath. |

| stinky breath may be from food and things getting trapped between extra teeth .

| kizzy has two baby teeth on bottom beside her adult that she's never lost. my vet said they will lose them on thie own most of the time by 1 year old. so he dont want to pull hers before that unless i just want him to. so i'm gonna wait till then and see if they come out since she is already 9 months old. he just said some lose them earlier than others but most do lose them on their own by 1yr.

| My Tali's had 8 teeth pulled. She did relly good with the hole thing. I was really worried but she did great. Bad i think I left the teeth in to long hoping they would fall out and now she has a brown tooth. I dont know if that from her baby teeth being in to long or what. Hope everything goes okay. | Wow... it sounds pretty common to have to have it done, then. thank you everyone for all the responses. I feel a little bit better about it now. My friend, who's had yorkies for around 8 years, says she usually waits a little, and gives good chewies and plays tug o war etc. Just to see if they can work it out on their own. But sometimes it doesn't work. I'll give it a little longer... but not very much. thanks again. deb |

| Layla had 4 teeth.. her canine... pulled 3 weeks ago.. she was crunching her hard food as soon as she came home.. she seemed very unaffected by the actual procedure.. just the medication took about 3 days to wear off.. but same thing for spaying. nothing different... just keep an eye on where they teeth were pulled to make sure they don't catch any food and get infected. let us know how it goes! |
