| ugh frustrated please help ok first off , let me tell you, max will be 5 months old november the 11th.I have been working with him on crate training, ( went really well with my boston) well, max freaks out lately, he screams scratches the crate door, and he poops all over the place in there!! like explosive poop. almost like he is traumatized. he wasnt in a crate at the breeders or my aunts house and seemed to do fine the first few times he was in there, i kept him in for about 20 min at a time. so thats my first problem.. should i keep trying? should i get a playpen? the crate is small, just enough room for him to stand, turn around and lay down. im just scared he is traumatizing himself in there. now my second problem is this: last night, max jumped off the bed, i cant have him running all over the house b/c he gets into so much stuff lately, so i get up to get him, and he runs away from me like im playing a game, i tried ignoring him getting down to his level, and calling him, getting a treat, everything, this went on for about 25 min, him running like mad around the house and me trying to catch him. i have never ever been mean to max, never raised my voice, nothing, and it wasnt like he was scared, he was playing, and actually it made me mad.. i cant stand when a dog runs from you instead of coming when called. ive been working with him on training, sit, come, stay ect. baby steps for now.. i just dont know what to do, he is so dang stubborn, and its recently, not like he has been this way. then i have the 3rd problem.. he is still pooping in the house. he was doing fine going outside until it rained and his schedule got all of course, he pees outside all day, never a accident there, but he continues to poop in the house, and not always on the pad either, we stil have two pads in the house since he is still learning, and at first he would go outside or use the pad, then he got the peeing outside down. i so frustrated i dont know what to do. im almost in tears just thinking about it.. training my boston wasnt this hard, but i did have my ups and downs, but it seems max is so much more stubborn. i really need some advice guys i dont know what to do, i want to be able to help him, b/c i know he would be so much happier once he catches onto all of this, and i want the peace of mind knowing im doing whats best for him.. any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

| This worked for me! First, he's not a dog yet LOL at five months!! He's a BABY. I got my yorkie at six months and the lady told me that he was housetrained to go on pee pads.......right! She must have been talking about another dog. We had pee pads laid down for the maltese and he would rip them to shreds!!!! It was a play thing for him. Thank goodness the maltese never left "gifts" on them before he ripped them up. I have two crates one big enough for two or three small dogs and a smaller one. The maltese would make a poop mess everytime we left her in it.........poop on white But after we adopted the yorkie we never put her in the crate and after the yorkie ripped up the pee pad, stopped doing that too! My view on the housetraining is that you have to be consistent and give it your 24/7: eat, breath sleep like a dog. Never let him out of your sight. I do not work so it was something very easy for me to dedicate my time and energy to get it accomplished. Well, it took a little longer than the maltese, but he is fully housetrained. He will come up to you and push on you when he has to go out and he will not let up until he gets his way. Now that he is a year old, he can hold the pee pee a lot longer and we have stored the crates and they have full roam of the house when we are gone and nothing has ever been destroyed and NO messes anywhere. We are so delighted more than words can express. But I stayed on top of the little guy like a wart on a frog...I was his shadow for two weeks. Getting him to come......well, my husband and I had practice sessions. He would sit on the floor and I would sit about 30 feet across the room and we would alternate telling him to "come here" and do a hand signal and when he came, we would give him a small piece of treat that he absolutely adored. Did the same with the maltese. I always train with treats and verbal as well as hand signals. They will even sit without a word when I give them the hand signal and will come with the hand signal.........but it ain't easy.....takes a lot of time and dedication and most of PATIENCE!!! Have I helped you at all???? Oh and the running from you thingie......well, I have found if I call his name and take off running in the opposite direction, he panics and runs towards me to see where I am off to.........I usually run into the bathroom cause it is a small room and I hide behind the door and when he comes in, I shut the door and snag him. But that was all before I taught the come here command. Both of my furbabies have to be in the same room and I cannot be out of their sight so that makes it easier to train them too.

| thanks morkie4.. im going to try that technique you used for come. thats a great idea.. the potty training, i just dont know what to dang do.. i pick the poop up, take it outside, i follow him, picking him up when he starts circlening, and take him out.. the real problem arises when we are gone. now that im afraid to put him in the crate, i leave him out in the laundry room, gated, with a pad on one end, and his bed on the other. i dont free feed, so i dont leave food out. but he wil still poop there and not on the dang pad. also if the kids take him to thier room, he will poop as soon as he enters the room. maybe i need to confine him more? im i giving him too much free reign?? i just wanna cry, im so frustrated. i love him so much and want whats best for him, and for my sanity LOL

| Booger Britches So you've got a booger britches too! Cricket is fine in the crate,in fact she loves to sleep in there and takes her bone in for alone time. You put here in there and close the door, it's an other story. She gets to carrying on and gets so upset she gives herself diarrea. I holding out for a show hopeful so I packed her up and took her to the show with us yesterday. Not 5 minutes from home and she pooed! Did fantastic at the show and on the way home though. My breeder suggested small visits to the crate, putting things in there that she really likes and keeping her close so that I can calm her down. I keep her and Remi in the puppypen when we're gone during the day. It's a safe place, they're not alone, and they have everything they need. As far as running from you, I find that is I quit playing the game, they stop before too long. Around here we kid that you have to catch a "cricket". |

| Potty training Chewy is 6 1/2 months old... He only goes outside and he goes with in 3 min or less!(no kidding!) Chewy is not neutered yet... Here is how I did it. 1. I bought a baby play yard-I think it's the same as an ex-pen but plastic... 2. Put little rocks in side so he couldn't dig and get dirty every time he went potty! And I lined the edges with bricks...(He likes to step up on the bricks when he is done! MY friend's Yorkie does this too!) 3. Put a few leaves on the rocks to hold the smell so they get the idea! Or transfer some of the stuff from where he has been potting so he knows what to do! 4. Take your baby out at least every hour to try... Chewy goes just about every time we take him out... I tell him to potty.. go Pee or Poopie! I also started off giving treats till he got the idea. 5. Watch your Yorkie nonstop when he is in the house and the second you see him start to go... say (don't yell) No no no no..quickly take him out to his POTTY! Chewy got the idea that going in the house wasn't ok after doing this about 4 times!!! Before that I would just clean up the mess and not say anything but I don't think he realized it was any problem!!! 6. Chewy is in a create when no one is home or when we can't watch him... He also sleeps in the create at night. Before I took my friends advice and did this play yard thing I would walk Chewy and he WOULD NOT GO! He sniffed EVERYTHING!!! But never took the time to go potty! Then would go inside... I was at my wits end. I think the thing about them having a potty place is there is nothing to sniff... once they sniff it out in the beginning it is always the same! If Chewy doesn't go within 5 min we go back inside. __________________

I do have a baby playpen for Lillie...she is 5 months old (I used this for Sadie too when she was a puppy) I usually only put her in it if I am going out. She has everything in there that she needs..This way I know she is safe and can't get into anything.
