| A word of caution! I get up pretty early every morning...usually before the sun is up...and lay on the couch with Riley while Jo stays in bed. This morning I saw something large fly up from the ground and into the tree out front but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Well, shortly after that Riley wanted out so we went out on the front deck. I was looking around while he sniffed his way down to the third level of our deck and I noticed something very large looming over us from the oak tree about 6 feet away...this is what I saw... He was having his breakfast in our tree while he watched my Riley run around the deck. I said 'oh, Riley, you can pee pee inside today!' and we went in. I knew we had a big owl in the neighborhood, I've heard him several times but I had never seen him until today. I took his picture (I had to lighten it up so it's a bit grainy but it was still dark outside)and he didn't like the flash so he took his breakfast and flew across the street...man, was he big! | Oh my! Luckily for now, Kona and Bernie cannot go outside without a leash. Boy lady, you do get up early!! (I do too, so I really shouldn't be talking. lol)

| There are so many huge trees around the lake, it's beautiful but there's no telling what really lives around here. Now I'll be outside with the boyz looking at the trees all the time! Once you see something like this right in front of you it makes you realize that, yes, they could carry one of my boyz away. |

| Yes, we're all fine...thank you. My boyz are allowed out without a leash because we just rebuilt our deck for them. We used lattice under the railings and built gates at the steps...they can't leave the deck so there's no need for a leash. Yes, I do get up early...I love to watch the sun come up and the weather/sky change as the day arrives. |

| Good thing you were so alert! I have had to really watch our dogs due to hawks circling our yard. I have all small dogs and evidently they look appealing from the air. We also have had some close encounters with Cow Killer Ants (which are really in the wasp family but crawl like giant ants). Add that to the fire ants, and all the snakes drawn to our pool and there is no grazing without a human guard in our yard. (yikes -- reading back through that I wonder who is gonna guard the human?)

| I know what you mean. We lived in Florida for a while and those fire ants are wicked! Jo had a go with them and didn't fair so well...one or two fire ants plus a curious Yorkie ads up to an early morning trip to the emergency vet! Quote:

| Now, if you didn't have a yorkie....I would say HOW COOL to see an owl so up close & in the wild!!! BUT since you DO have a yorkie......how scary!! My fenced yard is bordered by federal park land & I am always scared of what could come & get my baby. I'm glad that your baby listened to you & was able to go back into the house safe & sound. |

| Glad Riley is ok ! What a great HALLOWEEN shot tho, with the glowing eye of that owl, glad he had other breakfast. It must have been very scarey. I think I'd try to put some sort of cover over the deck area just to be sheltered from those large birds.Or hang up something that moves with the wind that will keep the big birds away possibly. Hawks have been known to carry away little dogs also. Beware all the time when living in the open or near woods. Thanks for the warning too. |

| I can really relate to your ordeal.....I live in the country and we have lots of owls, hawks, and snakes here to......I always take Cooper out on a leash so I can scoop him up quick if I need to. Glad Riley is ok.....cool picture though. |

| When a friend of mine found that we got Grayson she was telling me her friend let her tiny yorkie out to use the bathroom and watched in horror as a owl flew down and took her dog off! How horriable I always have my baby on a leash glad your baby is safe with you!
