| Motion sickness As you may remember I got my baby boy Kahlua this past monday. Well, since then my hubby decided he didn't like the name...........so his new name is Bobbis (pronounced in Spanish). Anyhow, everytime we attempt to go for a ride, he starts salivating at the mouth and throws up. I tried with him on my lap, on his pet car seat, by me feet, etc. It happens about 10 minutes into the ride. I know he can't help it but I feel terrible that he gets nauseous. I am trying small car trips around the neighborhood and talking to him the entire time. Just now we drove a little farther to petsmart and he threw up again. Have any of you experienced this before? If so, how did you overcome this. I know the vet can prescribe motion sickness pills but I'd like to exhaust every alternative. We are trying to overcome this due to us usually traveling for x-mas. The toy poodle and cat are pros at traveling and with plenty rest stops and pet-friendly hotels...........we always have a joyful time. Hope our baby yorkie could enjoy car rides too. Any suggestions are welcomed

| I know exactly what you mean. Nikko is the same way. He won't last more than 10 minutes before he is vomiting and gagging. I have tried many things and nothing really seems to work for him but maybe they'll work for you. Try not to feed him before you go out so the food won't upset his stomach. Some have said ginger helps calm the stomach so you can give him a ginger tablet (I have searched for the tablets but around here they only have the caplets and I heard they were no good). Instead you can try to feed him ginger snaps to see if they help settle his tummy. I also tried an herbal remedy for anxiety that I bought from the pet store. They are these drops that you give him and supposedly they help calm him down. I must say, when I gave these to Nikko, he lasted a little longer without throwing up so you might want to try them. They are called Homeopet Travel Anxiety and you can order them online or at any pet store. Lastly, I have also tried taking his favorite toy and trying to distract him while in the car. If you make it a fun, positive experience, maybe he will look forward to the ride. I wish you the best of luck and I hope others on here have better advice for you.

| Oh ya...I know just what you're talking about! At 1 1/2 Riley seems to be growing out of his, he can ride for an hour or so and be fine. Jo is almost 2 and he isn't. If poor Jo even looks at the truck he gets sick! I finally got some Meclazine from the vet and that does the trick. It's kind of hard for spur of the moment rides though because you're supposed to give it about a half hour before going for a ride. I have also noticed he's a little shakey sometimes when I give it to him so I cut the dose a little smaller and that seems to be better for him. I don't like giving them medicine though, I wish they could just grow out of it so they wouldn't have to take anything. |

| I have to crate Ollie in the car or she will get car sick. sometimes on long rides she still gets sick, but the crate does help. My previous yorkie got car sick when she was young, but she did eventually outgrow it. |

| Thank you for all of your wonderful advice. Well, I don't feed him right before we leave. I actually plan the car rides and carry a pee pad, towel, blanky, his toys, and doggy wipes. He doesn't get nervous at all, but does get groggy and immediately begins to salivate non-stop. The saliva runs down his little chest and in no time he is soaked I keep drying him but again the saliva is non-stop. Then he starts gagging and up comes a bolous of mucous. I started him on missing link too since I had read on another post that it helped them with their yorkie. I guess I too am going to have to resort to the pills. I will bring this up at his next vet appt in 3 weeks. Thanks again
