| The dreaded thread I thought I was going to have to start a thread in the place nobody wants to have to start one in. I was going out the door from my lunch break to go back to work and even with my foot blocking the entrance, Roxy somehow managed to squeeze thru and run outside. She has done this a couple times but always runs to the neighbors porch next door. They usually have a cat sitting on the banister. Roxy saw some kids playing basketball up the street so she took off after them. They knew she wasn't supposed to be out but instead of calling her to play, they started chasing her and off she went. We chased her around peoples houses, thru lawns, across the busiest street in our town at the busiest time of day, (don't know how she made it, Krysten almost got nailed by 2 cars and I had to wait for a bunch before I could get across), thru more lawns, up a steep hill, over a big ditch, thru a field and into a cemetary. Now she has some real fun running in and out and around the stones. I yelled that I had a treat for her and she came running right to me.(Why didn't I try that a couple miles earlier). We hiked all the way back home, I went to work all winded and she spent some time in her time-out place. What a little stinker!! She did the "But, I'm so cute" thing so we couldn't stay mad at her. Tried to, but she's to good at the "cute" thing. At least she didn't get hurt - neither did we, for that matter. Just got a good scare!!!

| Pixie slipped out of her harness when we were walking down a busy street when she was 6 months old.... I thought I was going to die... we were both in danger of being hit by cars... I was just as wreckless as she was... It was a hell of a chase!!! I feel your pain!! I was pretty heavy then too!!! in hind sight it had to look pretty funny!! This big fat lady chasing a 2lb speck of a dog through traffic! lol I bet I was a sight! But in all seriousness... I was ready for the ER my heart was beating out of my chest I was so scared!!! Thank God she's ok!!!

| I'm so glad that no one was hurt and that you were able to get your baby back. Wow...it goes to show how fast those little buggers can go when they're on a mission, eh? I dread Topher getting out 'cause he's so fast, but he hasn't yet. Obedience class is working on his 'come' response, but it's still a worry. Glad you had a happy ending! |

| Our trainer suggested we teach them the get me game instead of the chase game. She means teach your dog to chase you (inside first). Make a big game of it so they enjoy it. Once they learn it you can use it outside if they ever get away from you. She also said that the chase game is their very favorite game and once you start it they will always want you to chase them. My chihuahua is a runner. I have found out the hard way that I can NEVER let her off leash. You might want to set up some kind of barrier so she cannot get loose when the front door is opened. That is just way too scary!!! |

| Oh, no! I know that was terribly frightening, but at least it turned out well in the end. I'm sure she took a few years off your life!

| Been there... done that. Ahia once slipped out the door at my sister-in-law's house. IN OHIO! I think she was running home. going down the very busy country highway. I started running in the middle of the road. I figured if they were not going to stop for a small dog in the road they better stop for me. so to protect her I made them stop for me. she stopped to greet a stranger and he put her in his car and brought her back to me. I'm glad everything turned out ok for you.

| Roxy! Don't you run off and scare us all like that!!! Jaxon did something similar a couple of weeks ago - he went through neighbors yards, across a street and through the trees, heading right for the interstate!!!! Fortunately my neighbor's daughters helped me catch him. He was having the time of his life running free but talk about giving me a heart attack.

| I feel your pain, too. I am so glad Roxy is safe and sound. We live on a main thoroughfare in a very busy sub. Sissy has escaped a couple times and she runs right into the street. There are usually at least two cars driving in different directions on our street at all times. My hubby and I create quite a spectacle running into the street to stop traffic while the other one corners and grabs Sissy. Its a really good thing that these little buggers are so darn cute and loving!!!

| How scary, the little stinker. Glad all is well. Mine would probably do the same thing but, I tell them to stay before I go out the door if they are not going with me and they stay believe it or not. Now if I forget to say stay the chase in on. Most of the time they run to either the car or the truck and then I can get them pretty easily.
