| Why is Hootie shaking?! Hootie is 5 months old and has never really been a nervous yorkie. Yesterday, out of the blue, she just starts shaking like a leaf! At first I thought she was cold, so I picked her up and wrapped her up in a blanket. But she still shook! So, I just set her down in the blanket and she continued to shake on and off until we had company last night and she sat in a friend of mine's lap ALL NIGHT and didn't shake at all. Then today, I left Hootie with my husband while I went to pick up lunch. My husband said that she sat by the door and shook the whole time I was gone! He said he tried to pick her up, but she didn't stop shaking until I came back home. But, I just left Hootie at home with my hubby again to come to work and I told him to call me if she started shaking but he hasn't called and it's been over 3 hours. So I assume she's alright. Anyway, she stays at home in her crate during the week while we're at work, so I don't see why me leaving her this morning would be any different. So, why do you think she has been shaking? She also threw up on Friday night...that white foamy stuff, which they say they do when they are hungry. But, do you think one of these things has anything to do with the other? Do you think Hootie was just cold? Was she having separation anxiety? She didn't get her nap in yesterday, so could she have been shaking from being too tired?? Like many of you, I am just a paranoid mom and I am just wondering if this throwing up and/or shaking is serious enough to take her to the vet? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh Hootie baby what is wrong sweetie ? I don't know why she'd be shaking like that unless maybe she got sick and you didn't see where ? Sometimes that will make them shake whether out of feeling bad - or feeling bad they did an ooopsie on the floor....I'd keep a good eye on that though if that isn't normal for her - some yorkies really do shake for minor reasons but if that's new for her - keep notes to tell your vet when she does it and she may need to go see him about this... I hope she's ok !! Sending hugs and smoochies from the girls |

| Gracie shakes for what seems to be no reason. I suspect that a noise or something spooked her. I also read that around 5-6 months of age, Yorkies go through a second stage where they fear being abandoned. That could explain it. Also, when your baby is shaking, you might try giving a bit of NutriCal and see if that stops it. Shaking could be a sign of low blood sugar.

Wow! Very very interesting!!!!!!!! I have never heard this! But yes, this seems to be what is bothering her because like this morning, my hubby said that she stood by the door the whole time and was just shaking like a little leaf! And the only time she wasn't shaking last night was when she was in someone's lap. I was aware that shaking can be a sign of low blood sugar. I made sure that this wasn't the issue, though. She is a very very good eater and she ate well yesterday and last night and this morning before I left the house. If she hadn't of eating well, I would have had the Nutrical out, stat!

If she is shaking out of fear of being abandoned, is there any way at all that I can calm her and make her feel secure and stop her shaking?

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Lillie does this if she dont eat breakfast in the morning, I think there sugar gets low, so I always make sure she eats in the morning. also you can give them a tad of honey to get there sugar levels back up or kayro syrup, or Nutrical |

I know it's not her blood sugar, though. Both yesterday and today she had just eaten before she started shaking. And she is a little piggy. She eats really well throughout the day.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's sooooooo sad that they fear abandonment - can you believe that ? then I think of all the dogs who actually ARE and it makes me feel terrible for them.... I hope your baby is going to be ok - She knows you aren't going anywhere but I would cuddle her just because....I know someone will say that just enforces the problem - but who could resist when they're shaking like that ? |

I KNOW! How incredibly sad is that. When I left her to come to work a little while ago, she was cuddling on the couch with my hubby. He hasn't called to say she has been shaking, so I'm hoping she is ok. I'm gonna cuddle her ALL night when I get home. I'll keep you updated on how she is doing. Thanks everyone for the replies!

| Chewy is scared of any kind of smoke. i was cooking bacon and he shook like crazy.. he ran around with his tail between his legs, very unhappy and would not be consoled... We had no idea what it was. He also sat by the door! After cooking bacon a few times we saw that he was scared, I burned some bread in the oven last week and he acted the same way... Tonight we have a fire in the fire place and at first he was scared but little by little he got closer and decided it was no threat... He seems fine now. Maybe your yorkie is scared of something and you don't know what it is yet!!! Just a thought!

| Hopefully - it will just go away. However, there is something called "The white dog shaking syndrome" -- or something like that. And since this was given a name, it has been discovered that this condition is common to several breeds - the Yorkie being one. I read about this on the Internet - but will let anyone who is interested look it up this time. It is a condition that causes dogs to "shake." So - if your dog continues to shake for no apparent reason - you might check this out..... Actually - I have posted information on this before - some time ago - and perhaps a search on "shaking" will bring that and other information up. Good luck - Carol Jean |

| Wow! Very Interesting!!!!! Hootie has been acting perfectly fine since I got home from work. My hubby said she was shaking when I went to pick up lunch, but since I came home after that and even left for work, and came back home, she's been fine. I talked to my hubby about it and we both think that she is just going through the phase where she is scared of abandonment. Now that we think about it, we think Hobbs went through that phase when he was 5-6 months of age. Hopefully this is just something that will pass very soon. I really really really appreciate everyone's responses. They have ALL been extremely helpful. Man, this is what I love about YorkieTalk! |
