| Family :/ So this weekend Howie and I went to visit my parents. My mom proceeded to call herself the dog whisperer and say that Howie "talks to her." Weird, right?? Well, then she goes on to tell me that Howie "told" her that he's lonely, a nervous wreck, and wants to go outside more. You should have seen the look on my face. I mean, how do you even respond to that. Then I asked her if that was HER opinion and she said no, that it's what Howie said to her. Her saying wacko stuff like that makes me feel really uncomfortable. I went on to tell her that and also that if Howie appears hyper or nervous it's the breed and that we go outside twice a day. Her response? I swear she said, "Howie lied to me! He didn't say you went outside that often!" And my mom isn't old enough for me to start blaming this on old age or any type of disorder! This isn't the first time she has claimed that Howie talks to her. How do I respond to this the next time???

| Wow, that's a tough one. Is this the only issue your mom "rolls a little to the left" on? If so, I'd just humor her and say "sure Mom, whatever you say"...if not, you might talk to your dad about your mom maybe going to the doctor and getting a check up. I am thinking if Howie was talking to her, he might say more complimentary things about his mommy.

| Wow! That is the strangest thing I've heard in a while! I would laugh it off and ignore her. Don't fuel her fire. She may just be doing it for attention or to rouse you up. If you don't give her the response that she's looking for, then she will quit this behavior. |

| There is a woman (not the "Dog Whisperer") on TV who talks with animals. I'm sure you have all seen her. Personally, I think she's got a good thing going - but she has a program and people all over the world listen to her - and, Lord help me --the really believe that she is talking to the animals - and they talk back!!!! I wonder if your mother hasn't seen her. I'd just tell your mother that it must be a "rare gift" that she has. And - humor her and try to get on to other subjects. **** I really do appreciate how you feel and can understand how this would be upsetting for you. But, until this sort of thinking enters into other areas of her life - you probably don't need to worry too much. At least, her thinking this way about your dog - is harmless. Good luck! Carol Jean |

| Sounds Like This Might Be One Of Those "pick Your Battle" Things. If Nothing Is Medically/mentally Wrong With Your Mom Then It's Probably Not Worth Getting Upset Over.....let Her Think She Has A Great And "special" Bond With Your Doggie(even Though It Can Drive You Nuts)....grandmas Love That Stuff. |

| Your Mom may need to be on the medications I'm on! I'm not being sarcastic, I'm dead serious. If this is the only "off the wall" thing she's been doing she might be ok. Maybe deep down she thinks you don't take care of him like "she thinks you should". And this is her way of "telling you in a nice way". Dunno, thats my first guess. Now if she gets more off the wall on other things not associated with the dog.....get an appointment with a psychiatriast, fast. She may have more going on in her head than you realize, and most of it....there is medications that do take care of them. |

| Sounds like something I would say to my kids. Humor her. Maybe she's lonely and wants you to visit more. |
