| Timid but Defensive Hi, WE bought our little Yorkie from an individual who only had him 2 months and then they had to go back to work. He was very timid when we met him and also on the ride home was very quiet but sweet. It took a couple of days before he was "okay" with the female maltese we already owned. After several more days, he was great with the maltese and they are best buddies. Problem?: Well, our neighbor had three dogs and they were all friendly and got along well with the maltese and they did not have a problem with the Yorkie BUT----he had a problem with them. He snarled, growled and even went after them aggressively and in very plain language to leave him alone. He now runs when their puppy (six months now) comes down and runs to the lani door and stays there all huddled up. I have never seen such a young dog act so unfriendly with other dogs. The maltese gets along with all dogs and people. So I am trying to figure out why he does not like to inter-react with other dogs, not even a little bit. |

| Hi! How old is your pup? Did I overlook that in the post? LOL. My Bella is 10mths old and is very much like you described. She growls and acts ferocious around other dogs but if they come near her, she cowers and screams!!! Really screams. It's fightening and frustrating. My SO hates walking her because everyone who has their dog out gets irritated because their pups/dogs are walking nice and just "smiling" at the other dogs, and Bella is acting like a maniac! I know it's due to poor socialization ( ) but it's too the point that it's hard to even attempt to begin socializing her because she goes nuts. Sorry I don't offer any help... I can only relate. |

| Maybe he just doesnt like dogs that are strange to him. My Jewels does not like strange dogs. Shes not defensive but she is very timid around them. She also gets really scared if a strange doog barks at her. I just try to take her on frequent walks and I am going to put her in a class. I really dont know if that will help though

| hello everyone... I have two dogs. When we take them for walks and they are on a leash Ceasar would be so good and doesn't bark at other dogs we will encounter but Cleo would bark and it is frustrating because other dog owners are not so understanding. But when we take them to dog parks they act the opposite. Ceasar would snarl and bark at dogs who would play rough and try to be so close to him and Cleo is just fine and does not semm to mind when other dogs get near her. That's why I'm interested to know what other people here are going to suggest. We've tried the can with coins, we've tried touching her on her neck just like Cesar Millan would do on his shows...It's really frustrating. |
