| OK Friends, fess up I was just curious, how many of those in there bought/acquired their babies from BYB or flea markets. Thank goodness for this site or I would have done it. The prices are so much cheaper. Comeone guys, who made a mistake just out of loving the puppy and not being aware. Thanks |

| Well first you have to define back yard breeders. Are those the occasional hobby breeders? Or some where between a show breeder and a puppy mill? I believe most small breeders could be considered back yard breeders. My idea of a byb is one that does not breed for show and does not make their sole living off of breeding and selling dogs. And in my opinion there is nothing wrong with that. but maybe your definition is different. Actually Ollie came from what some might refer to as a puppy mill. Well I guess I would refer to iti as a puppy mill, but thered are puupy mills , and then there are puppy mills . Chachi came from a large breeder in CA, she used to show, but I don't believe she does any more. |

| Pet Shop Well, I didn't actually buy from a byb or puppymill directly or even knowingly; I bought her from a person who went to a pet shop and purchased her and kept her two year until she had a human baby and so the dog had to go. Why???? I have no clue because she turned out to be the sweetest little thing and no health problems. But would never buy from flea market, byb or pet shop!!!! |

Yes they sell puppies at flea markets and its very sad. Flea Markets are full of dog Diseases(like parvo) and bad breeders. And yes before yorkietalk educated me I got a dog from both a pet store and a flea market. (the chihuahua from the flea market got parvo and didnt make it )

| Flea Market Pug Funny you should mention Flea Markets......My Aunt from California called me the other night, bragging how she bought a Pug puppy for a steal for only $400.00 with NO Papers from their local Flea Market. I haven't seen or spoken with her for almost 3 yrs. so I was very surprised in more than one way! I thought I was a Fool for purchasing my first Yorkie, from the Internet (I didn't know any better). There is a fine line between what one would consider the difference between a Kennel & Puppy Mill.....I've seen BYB, that I would consider as a Puppy Mill. I guess it depends what your Standards are? |

| I believe Piper came from a backyard breeder. It looks like a legit website, but when we received her she was so sick. Giardia, coccidia. That's a BYB to me. Never again! learned my lesson, next time do lots of research on getting a puppy. Still love her. |

| I guess the lady we bought RoxyJo from would be considered a BYB. It was her Yorkie's 5th litter and I believe she was 7 yrs old. She had the Mom and Dad. She had one or two babies from previous litters that belonged to her children. But I don't think it was a business for her. She certainly didn't need the money. Beautiful home, expensive cars, etc. I don't think we could be happier with Roxy. Great personality, healthy as a horse, smart. One of our cockatiels came from a flea market and he is amazing.

| The family that I got Phoebe from had gotten her from the local pet store. Which I believe gets them from puppy mills. Broker or no Broker it is all the same. After they took her home she ended up in the emergency vet hospital, she had parvo. That is why YT is such a great site. There is no way you could put a price on the value of the information here.

| Chewy came from a pet shop. My hubby fell in love on sight... (He would not let us get a yorkie and then, with in ten min he was saying yes. I truey feel he would never have caved. But being in the store and playing with him changed his mind. He would never have gone to a breeders house to LOOK! The dogs in this pet store are clean, have toys to play with... the staff does take them out to play when they can, and I have seem them grooming them, so I know they try to do what they can while the dog is in their care.... I had no idea what a puppy mill was. I have to say, Chewy is healthy, loving, and sweet, hand friendly, potty trained since 4 months old, and sleeps through the night, and is AKC registered. All the things people constantly say the oposit about pet store dogs. I can't say I wouldn't get another dog from a pet shop. I know the money goes to puppy mills but these poor babies need a home! There is a yorkie right now in the pet store that is BIG! She will be around 16 pounds by the time she is full grown as far as the store can guess... She has been rotting in her cage for over a month! My daughter and I go to play with her every weekend to make sure she gets exercise and some fun but she NEEDS a home. I fear she won't get adopted because she is so big. My heart is breaking for this poor baby. I'd save her myself if I thought for sure it would be the best thing for my family but I can't aford her, and I worry that Chewy would revert back to going potty in the house, and other puppy stuff he is being good about now. People on here are very quick to down puppy stores, but I have a few friends that all got their dogs from pet stores... all are healthy, all are sweet wonderful pets. Please remember that when you say bad things about pet store dogs you are talking about some one's family pet... A memeber of their family, and it does hurt... THanks
