| When to take a dog home? Hi I am getting a Yorkie that was born Sept 4th, on the 20th of Oct. What is the best time to take a puppy away from his mother? Would Oct 13th be too soon ? Just looking for perspectives from those in the know of these types of dogs etc. Thanks |

| If I am adding that right the puppy would only be 5 weeks. Thats way to young to be going to their forever home. Most breeders keep them 10 to 12 weeks. Could you ask the breeder to keep the puppy longer?

| I think that is wayyyyy too young for your puppy to be away from it's mom and litter. The longer the pup stays with it's mom and litter the more adjusted he/she will be. You will get a confident/socialized and healthy puppy versus a scared puppy who might not eat well, and might have a lot of issues if brought home too early. I wouldn't risk it personally, because it's not fair to take them away from their world before 10 weeks. I would say 12 weeks but if they are eating well 10 is definetely more acceptable than 5 or 7. Please reconsider and ask the breeder to keep the pup for only an extra month. I know how excited you are but just think of how many nights you will lose sleep because the puppy will cry and cry for it's mom and litter. It's really heartbreaking.

| My mom got her Yorkie at 6.5 weeks old... She'd never heard about the hypoglecemia until I told her a few weeks ago. Nevertheless. her puppy was fine, she was off for 2 or 3 weeks to get it aclimated and all. He was on the smaller side as well. But I think it's kind of too early, not only about their feeding but mostly I read about the pup development and the weeks 6-9 are best for learning the behavior from mother and littermates... I got my pup at 9 weeks and he gave me a few scares at the beginning as he wouldn't eat much and slept most of the time.
