| Decision to make... Help! I have a decision to make... This is kind of a long story... I am going to be bringing my new puppy home (Butterfly) either this weekend or next weekend (I'll find out on Thursday). Originally I was going to be moving around mid Nov. but a last minute thing came up and we had to move last Saturday... well... since my fiancé and I both work during the day and weren't planning on moving in together until a little later, we had made arrangements with someone close to us who is absolutely excellent with dogs (and lives very very close by) to keep Butterfly at her house for a couple weeks until we were able to move. Since she would be home during the day this would also ease my worries of someone being there to monitor Butterfly in case of any drops in blood sugar or whatnot during the first couple weeks in the new home. Well... we have our own place now which solves one thing, but I'm worried about someone not being able to be with her during the day for the first couple weeks and am wondering now if I should still keep her at this friend's house (who will not be near as close now) until we see she's doing fine eating and not becoming hypoglycemic; or if we should just bring her home with us and find some way to give access to a tiny bit of corn syrup or something. Is there anyone who works during the day that has any good advice or has been through something similar with the puppy being brought home for the first time??? Sorry if this is so confusing, it is quite a dilemma for me!!

| Maybe you can try to pick her up on a weekend and then use a few vacation days to be home and monitor her. That's what I did when I got Howie. I saved them all up so I could be home to train him and keep an eye on him.

| I dont really know, maybe I would still try to keep her at a friends house for a couple of weeks and take her home on weekends but also if you can visit her everyday at your friends house. good luck in whatever you decide.

| I'd be scared of leaving a new puppy alone in the house for the whole day. Could you check on him every 2-3 hours (maybe lunch break? - depends how far you work from home....). I work like 25 miles from home and couldn't and schlepped him to work every day for 1.5 months -was lucky to do so... He had periods of not eating at the beginning (seems most do) and I wanted to keep an eye on him. Or maybe you could take some days off. If neither one, I think it'd be safer to leave him at that friends' house.

| Is it at all possible for you to take her with you to work? That'll be the best solution. I think you want her to bond with you not with your friend.

| We saw her/picked her out at 5 weeks old so they were very small being so young and everything, she wasn't the runt of the litter, she was a little bigger than the other puppies. She's been doing well eating but of course she's with the rest of the litter still and following the pack so I don't really want to depend on that. It's not possible for me to take her to work, but that might be possible for my fiancé. I agree, I do want to be the one to bond with her, it would be heartbreaking to see her first stages spent with another person. If we would be able to take some time off from work does anyone know how long we should be thinking about? Or if my fiancé were able to bring her to work, how long he would have to do that? Or does it just need to be played and out depending on how she does, I don't know if there's a certain age that they become more stable or what?

I've never been in this situation before I'm so sorry that it will be a couple of weeks before you can have her at home with you. Is there anyway that she can stay with the breeder until you get things situated or at the very least try and spend as much time with her as possible? I would most definitely see if I could take some vacation so you could bond with her. If she stays with you friend it would only be with the understanding that I would be there as much as I could to play with her and getting to know her and her personality. Please keep us posted on what you decide to do. How old is she? Welcome. Are you in Conyers, GA? Just wondering.

| Yeah I'm in Conyers, Ga. and work in Atlanta. She's 8 weeks right now... I've given my fiancé a heads up so we can discuss it and find some resolution tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm starting to feel a little better now that we have some more options to look into.

| I don't like the idea of leaving her with someone else for two weeks then having her come home with you - the stress of two homes on a young puppy, not good in my opinion. I would prefer to leave her with the breeder for the two additional weeks. I never let any of my puppies go home before 10 weeks minimum, usually 11 weeks, and most breeders actually want to wait until they are 12 weeks. I think the person that suggested getting her on a weekend and trying to take off a couple of sick days will help her to settle in and you will know if there is going to be any problems. If she isn't eating dry really good, I think she is still probably going to need to be fed at lunchtime. Hopefully, you can get out and meet a new neighbor who can check on her for you. |

| I think I would just have to ask the breeder to keep her for another couple of weeks even if I had to pay extra. You are not going to be able to be with her anyway, so I believe it would be better for her to be with her mom & the rest of the litter. Even if they are all sold, she would still be in a familiar environment. If you have to move her twice, the stress could cause her to have a bout with coccidia, etc. I also feel like it would be a risk to leave her alone for a full day. Good luck to you all. |

| When my little ones arrived I was able to bring them to my office for a few weeks, just because my husband was not able to take care of them at home. If you or you boyfriend could bring them to work that would be great. If either of you can't maybe the breeder could keep her for a few weeks and if your concerned about her not bonding with you, then have a t-shirt that you wore for a day and give that to her to snuggle up with. Good Luck... |

| I know if someone asked me to keep a puppy an extra couple weeks with your situation I would say "ABSOLUTELY" Talk to your breeder. What kind of breeder would say no when its in the interest of the puppy? I bet they say yes. |
