| pupply is it true that the heavier the puppy initially is the healthier ? or is this a myth? this puppy is an only puppy to the mother, she tends to have only one in a litter, his brother and sister are very healthy as i know who owns them, my concern is that he is so fat, the breeder says the vet said she would rather them that size than small...well idont want an over weight dog for health reasons anythoughts or concerns? will he lose it once he isnt eating off the mother as much ? thx |

| I think bigger is better than super tiny as far as health but there are tiny ones that are healthy. I think when there is only one pup to a litter they tend to be bigger because they are getting all of the milk

| How old is he. Puppies should be rolly polly, they'll run it off soon enough. If after you get him, he eats too much then it will be up to you to give him only the proper amount of food. |

| The Bigger the Better "Congratulations" on your new Baby......I'm sure you'll spoil him rotten! From my experience the Bigger the Better, it means he's got all the Mothers milk to himself w/c is full of Health building nutrients. The smaller ones are @ a higher Health risk. Unfortunetly this Breed loves to eat anything and everything! It's up to you how much you feed him and what grade/quality food? Another problem is that most first time owners don't usually excercise them by giving them simple daily walks @ least 2 times per day, beleive it or not these are active hunting dogs that love to track, chase and dig for prey even if it's only a squirrel or bird to them that's their job! It's us humans that dress and parade them and smother them with love (I know I do). Both Artie & Abigail were the biggest, heaviest most "Dominant" puppies from their Litters w/c meant they were the first & last to nurse from their Mothers. I actually got a deal from their Breeders b/c of this they were bullying the rest of their Littermates and causing mayhem in their Home, so they were anxious to get rid of them! (Both are from different Litters and no relation to each other) They turned out to be normal standard weight, very solid, compact and muscular. They are also very calm and stable and they definetely have that confidence of being the first born! Good Luck and Welcome to YT. |

| I don't think that bigger always means healthier; however, the smaller the dog is the quicker it can go down hill if it does get sick. We have a very small male and an small female and both are really healthy. Single pups are most of the time bigger than pupps born in a litter bc they do get all of the extra both before and after birth. I wouldn't worry about your puppies weight though. Most Yorkies have such a high metobolic rate that as active puppies they will thin down pretty fast once they get to moving. Here is a picture of our chubby out of the litter. He is only 5 days old here, and already weighs a third of his dads weight.
