| Combouts..angry baby! Does anyone have advice for combing out my baby? She deeply hates with a passion any comb I bring near her furry little body! I feel terrible but she can't stay knotted up. She isn't agressive towards me and will not bite me but if the comb itself gets too close it's over. I can't imagine other than it being painful why she would be this upset...HELP!! Advise please!!

| I wish I knew the answer!! Cooper hates being combed too...he runs if he thinks that is what I am up to. I know I don't hurt him, he just doesn't like it. Once I get him and we get going, he just sits there and suffers through it...he hates it the whole time!! Carley doesn't seem to mind...I don't get it...hope someone has a magic answer for us!

| Cant wait to hear some answers for you. Louie is fine and likes to be brushed but Bella is just full of fun and always trys to bite the brush and play and will NOT let me brush her. It is always a fight.

| Tony used to be the same way. I had to shave off his entire coat b/c of how bad it was. (I WILL NEVER BUY A MATTED PUPPY EVER AGAIN, i didn't know b/c his hair was so long) but just use a lot of moisturizing conditioner. and use a plastic comb, not a metal one (those aren't as flexable) and do it when ur baby is W-E-T! and praise, praise, praise! Comb your baby before he gets the crazies and knots his hair up even more. hope this helps! let me know |

| I use no more tangles on Tootie... he used to HATE combing or brushing but I took someones advise here and bought a plastic "human" comb, we make a game out of it and Tootie knows that if he is a good boy that he gets a special treat. It took a while to convince him of this but it works! He gets praise the WHOLE time and knows now how good he is.... Hope is so small, its not much of a fight.. LOL

| Gracie really freaks out when I bring out the brush or comb. I guess I got a bit rough before with the tangles. I am so used to cats that don't scream with every little thing. Anyway, I have been working with her, using a bristle brush very gently, twice a day, and she is getting better. She hates the feel of the teeth of a comb or a pin brush against her skin. I did use the pin brush after her bath. I used some cowboy magic while she was wet and not one flinch or scream!

| I trid spraying the fur with Detangler but my pup thinks it's a water bottle he's being squirted with when he misbehaves... Go figure. And freaks out. I have to spray some on my hand and rub onto the coat really gently, which of course makes the process even longer. I use metal comb as the plastic one didn't get to the bottom of the hair where some mats were. He also needed to get a serious trim because of mats... It's growing out nicely now, and as long as I comb every day (when he's half asleep) he doesn't mat that bad anymore... Good luck.

I remember Mollie use to bite the brush or comb whatever I was using. She is much better now. Wyatt hates it. Villette gave some good advice. I use Suave detangler the same stuff you use on our 2 legged kids and it works wonders. Also, I just use a comb only because it seems to get more tangles out than a brush. Thanks again Villette. Actually she suggested J&J no more tears. Suave was cheaper so, that's why I got it. But, it works. Hope this helps. Sorry if someone already mentioned this. I didn't take the time to read the entire post.

| She probably just hates it because the tangles hurt. Use a good moisturizing conditioner AND a good detangler. I used to use Infusium leave-in conditioner after Tatum's bath PLUS a detangler spray. Almost NO tangles that way. Lately though I've been using Pet Silk and after the shampoo, conditioner and spray, I don't need the Infusium at all. I remember one time I had to use a ringworm shampoo on Tatum and the vet tech said no conditioner after it. Well, let me tell you, I only did that once and even then I ended up sticking her back in the sink and using conditioner. There is absolutely NO WAY you can comb out a long-haired dog without a good conditioner. My comb slides like butter through Tatum's hair but it's all due to the conditioners!

| Thank you all so much for your wonderful advice! The next time I give Kylie a bath I will try a good conditioner! With good praise and consistency we should be off to a better bath time in no time! I will have to try both human and dog conditioners as well as leave in to see which one does the trick! Kylie is usually such a sweet heart and would never hurt a fly it breaks my heart to see her so upset so I really appreciate the advice and trust me so does she!

| Oh, I just noticed your avatar picture. Is she just a new little baby?? Bless her heart! I remember my big screw-up when Tatum was a baby. I was bathing her and brushing her and not noticing that I wasn't getting all the way to the roots to get out the tangles. Then after several weeks I decided to try a comb and that poor baby went through hell while I got out all the matts way down at the roots and I had a handful of hair when I was done. We were both a mess by the time I was finished. What a difference it was for her hair to lay flatter since all the matting was gone at the roots!! That's when I tried the Infusium and ever since then, no problems (as long as I condition well!). Good luck!! I'm sure the bathing/combing experience will dramatically improve with some conditioning.
