| Ok Ok OK, I will admit when I am....... I am the kind of person that will stand up and admit when I am wrong and I think this is one time I will have to admit I was wrong........after the post where I had stated that my baby boy had NEVER been on the ground and everyone kinda had a fit over it I got to thinking maybe I am being to protective and maybe it is taking the dog out of him.....I dont want to do anything to hurt my baby in ANY way he is my life and I love him VERY much so after everyone said that not letting him on the grass was wrong I thought no way he wouldnt know what to do outside and he wouldnt like it so to prove that point to everyone I let him outside (me and hubby went with him) and he LOVED it....I felt soooo bad that i had never let him out for a walk or anything and to justify it in my mind I would say we live so close to everyone and no telling what animal has been in my yard and so on.....but I thought he would react differentaly lol but to my suprise he LOVED it....he just ran after my hubby in the grass and played....so now he goes out everyday for no less than 30mins and he loves it.........I want to say I am sorry for not wanting to listen to you all I think it was just me loving him to much and being to protective of him......i have never had an animal i love like him so I didnt want anything to happen to him....I got to thinking he is UTD on everything so what would it hurt to let him out thats what the shots are for right lol@me....but anyway i just wanted to say thank you all for making me see it would make my baby even happier to go outside I would do anything to make him happy, I want him to live life to the fullest.....I know he loves going out now and thanks you all for makeing me see that as well ....*hugs* |

| Wow - you have made one little dog very happy! Puppies and grass go together -- unfortunately puppies and mud go together also. Remember - your little pup has to be exposed to a lot of different things so that he will develop an appropriate immune system. It's interesting that the American Journal of Medicine came out with an article a few months ago - stating that children who came from (obsessively clean homes) suffered more illnesses that children who came from (more normal environments). They especially suffered from ear infections, colds, allergies, asthma - etc......simply because they were kept in a "too-sterile environment." So - you can tell yourself that you are making your little pup healthier and less apt to get sick by letting him out to play in the yard - Good for you! Carol Jean |

I agree with the poster above, the pup needs to be exposed to these things. That is why they get their shots like us humans.........they are there to protect us and help us build the immunity to these pathogens. I am so glad that you are more at ease with letting him play on the grass..........he must be thrilled

| That's great to hear. Mine just loves walks and playing in her yard. In fact, that's one of the first places she wants to go every morning...out to play in her yard.

| I remember your post. I think you're doing what's best for the little guy. I'm sure he's glad that his mommy is so open-minded. Most dogs LOVE to play outside and roll around in the grass and run through it. I'm glad you decided to let him try it. I can't imagine a dog or even a kid not being able to play outside. They also have dog parks so that you don't have to worry about your little guy as much. I think you've just opened a new door of fun for you and your dog! |

| Thats great that you took your baby out, I'm sure he absolutely loved it! And also, the pup bonds with you in a new way while playing/running/chasing you outside. I know mine does ...

| Good for you for letting go a little bit!!! I can't imagine never letting Reuger outside to run around. He is all boy (and dog) when he goes out. We live quite a ways from the main road so Reuger gets to run free and he takes full advantage of it. He often comes in covered with stick-tights all over him or sometimes he finds something dead to roll in (that means that he gets an immediate bath!!). We never know what he'll get into. I know that our situation is not for everyone but I know that Reuger is very happy with it.

I tried to tell that to my best friend (a germaphobic) but she wouldn't listen. When her little girl started interacting with other kids at a day school a couple days a week, she got sick constantly. She's a LITTLE bit better with this second baby but still goes overboard (IMO) on the germ stuff at home. Kids are kids and need to be exposed...... just as puppies do (after their shots). So glad your baby knows the joys of the outdoors now!!

| Hi I just wanted to say that there is NOTHING in the world like watching your yorkie running off lead. It never fails to make my heart glad when I take the york-a-lorks to a dog park and watch them leap about in the grass. SnowWa - Dougal and Dixie must have read that article too! They are always rolling in stuff (like dead sheep and poo) when we go for farm walks. Then they look up happily at me as if to say "but MUM i'm just boosting my immune system!" LOL! And - touch wood - neither have had a sick day in their lives.
