| First, Prayers for Blitzen then advice please I'm adding my prayers that God returns Blitzen to you safely. I can only imagine how frantic you are. My question. My Abbie is an almost 4 pound little girl, who will be 2 in November. I've been thinking about getting another pup but have some concerns. First of all, my concern is for Abbie. Since she is so little, I worry about getting another that might grow bigger and hurt her inadvertantly while playing. One of my sons has a 4 pound chihuahua and they love to tumble and roughhouse. Also, she's a jealous little thing and whenever one of the grandpuppies are up in my lap, that's where she wants to be too and will try to nudge them away. Secondly, I've heard that since they are terriers after all, that sometimes they will fight to the death or do seripus damage to one another. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Is she too old to accept a new puppy? Thanks for any advice. |

| Kiki is twice the size of Mazie, the cat is five times bigger than her, and the lab is....oh, probably 30 times bigger. They all play and roughhouse together, and while everyonce in awhile someone might accidently get stepped on and yelp, for the most part the bigger animals just instinctively know they need to adjust to the smaller. If you want to know the truth, I think Mazie inflicts the most pain. They all seems to try to be so gentle with her, and give her her own way about things, because of her size....meanwhile, she's a dirty fighter, and gets some nips in. I know it's a valid concern when you have BIG dogs and little dogs together (like my lab and the yorkies), but I think the concern over two YORKIES who are not the same size is a little exaggerated. I'd say as long as they are both under ten lbs, it's not a big issue. PERSONALITY is a bigger issue than size, in my mind, but again, I think the vast majority of the time animals have good sense about how to play with one another.

| The disposition of your second dog would be of vital importance. There will be plenty of time for them to adjust to eachother. I'm thinking it would work out since Abbie plays with another dog. She may refuse the new one at first and even look like her neck will snap from turning it so far away from him/her. But, again, since she does play with the Chi, I honestly believe she will accept a new one after a week (give or take). |
