Default Taking Your Yorkie Out In Public

I hate it! lol I live in NYC and I'm used to being "invisible" by my neighbors and just in general, I like to blend and not stand out. Well, now that I got Nigel, people in my building are constantly talking to me, I get stopped constantly when I have him with me around the neighborhood, and let me tell you, I live in Spanish Harlem, it's not a bad place per say, but it isn't a place you want to stand out lol I never had to deal with my newfound (or Nigel's) celebrity status. Now everyone in the neighborhood knows who we are and has to ask me a million questions about the dog. "will he get bigger?" "how old is he?" And some even nosy questions such as "How much did you pay?" "Where did you get him from?" Sigh..I am trying to practice leash training with him and I can't go anywhere without being disrupted..damn I need to move to a better neighborhood lol Until now, Nigel and I are the Paris Hilton and Tinkerbelle of Spanish Harlem..sigh..okay that's my rant

Love Get used to it!

Get used to it......your a celebrity now! Alot of Yorkie owners carry their Fur babies so they don't have to deal with that, I personally prefer mine to walk.
I have 2, 1 male Artie and 1 female Abigail when they walk on Leash they literally prance or float on air being the arrogant proud Terriers that they are.
But I do occasionally take Artie shopping, Abigail has no patience for Public Relations/Marketing since I do try to talk and promote the Breed! Besides she is more of a Guard/Patrol Dog, Artie on the other hand loves the attention! I used to live in Boston and have to take the Train everywhere, plus Boston is a very Pet Friendly City as well as San Francisco, Carmel CA, & Napa Valley.
Anywhere where people make money, they recognize the Breed, Thanks to all the Celebrity/Publicity! I used take both of them through all the Drive-thru's, I have Lunch outdoors with them sitting @ the Table w/their own plate, Artie surfs and floats on an air matress in the middle of a Lake w/me and Abigail rides a Ninja 900 with no harness or anything w/c is nerve wrecking for me to watch! I do not teach them these things to attract attention, I just want both of them to experience everything and not be scared of the unknown?
The Mall is the worst place to take them b/c of screaming excited children
& Teenagers that are Jessica Simpson Fans! (No offense to anyone!)
They have to tolerate all the attention and I have to be Patient enough to answer all the Questions! Some where deep inside.....you must be a Celebrity
waiting to get Discovered since you already have the Yorkie? With the Status comes the attention, whether you want it or not? But I do feel your Pain, looks like you better move? Definetly carry "Pepper Spray" just in case? Not to sound paranoid but I would watch out too b/c alot of the time they are scoping you out? This Breed has a high rate of Theft.....crack heads steal and sell anything & everything! When I arrived here, I had only been in Town for 2 days, some one tried to steal Artie when I had left him in our parked car
in the Parking Lot @ BIG LOTS. they shattered my rear windsheild. Everyone in the Store heard it and I came running out just in time! That cost me $250.00 to fix, but it was an expensive Lesson, needless to say I don't leave them in the Car for any length of time now. Sorry my post is so long, Good Luck in keeping a low profile......he's probably too cute w/c doesn't help much? I can just imagine

Yup no matter where you go you are going to get stopped. Happens to me all the time and I live in a place where houses are not too close to eachother. I can never go out with them without poeple wanting to see them. Sometimes it gets me mad because they touch them without asking (I don't know where there hands have been) Thats why now I got their stroller so when we go out to the stores people can't touch them...they are able to look at them.

I usually don't mind but I do know how you feel. Sometimes I'm in a hurry or my hairs messy or... well whatever. You don't always want to call attention to yourself. Guess that's the price we pay for having the cutest dogs on Earth.

Yorkies are irresistible to just about everyone. It may die down some as the newness wear off and most neighbors know that you have one, but when you come across new people be prepared to be bombarded with questions.

FWIW, I was never able to keep people from wanting to pet Lucky. He was very snippy around strangers and very protective of me. I would always warn people that he does not like strangers and WILL BITE HARD. Yet they absolutely could not help themselves. Each time he would bite them and then they would get mad at me. HELLO, I told you not to touch him.

Sugar is like that except he doesn't bite. He gets very protective of me with strangers and can sound vicious. I always tell people, he's not very friendly but they can't resist. Then when he scares them to death they jump back all shocked. When someone tells you their dog isn't friendly ummm maybe you don't want to keep sticking your hand in the dog carrier? This just happened last weekend. My daughter had her dog Spike with us too. Spike is the sweetest dog in the world. I kept telling the lady that Spike was very sweet but Sugar was not friendly but she couldn't stop chasing him down in his bag.

LOL, I feel your pain! Unfortunately, a better neighborhood won't get rid the "celebrity status" of your little one. I live in a pretty nice area and everywhere I go that I have Ferdinand with me I get stopped a million times. I guess our furbabies are just so cute that no one can resist! It does get really old after a while though - especialliy if you're "on a mission" to find something or in a hurry.

Hahaha, no kidding lol I guess I am spoiled because when I owned my previous Yorkie, Prince, I lived in West Hollywood, CA and my dog actually played with other celebrity dogs like Ellen Degeneres, not to mention Carmen Elektra's Yorkie and James Woods Carin Terrier as well! lol We were a dime a dozen out there so absolutely NOBODY stopped us UNLESS they also had a small dog and wanted to arrange a play date. THAT I totally didn't mind. But when people try to touch my dog without asking me or ask me 50 gazillion questions, I do get annoyed, shoot even the mail lady stopped me and had a 20 minute conversation about him with me lol Well, I do hope our new found celebrity status dies down eventually, although I doubt it will. Nigel also happens to be a sweet boy and loves people and children. On occasion if I see some well behaved little ones who look longingly at him, I will allow them to pet him with parental supervision. He loves the kiddies. Okay, you guys are right, they are the cutest critters around, I better get used to it, just call me Paris

Heehee, Thanks! My post probably read like I had a grown daughter but she's only 11. She got her own little yorkie last Christmas.
