| New yorkie owner finally, but I need help. I finally got my yorkie, Spankie and i noticed something. He loves to fight and bite. I think he old owner's husband played with alot like that. I'm kind of upset of that. Another thing that i'm upset is that they gave a piece of paper with his birthday and the shots that was given to him. Supposely, that was his birth certificate. No AKC paper. And I think breeder cut off his tail.

| Hi, My yorkie loves to play that way too but he doesn't bite hard enough to hurt. He bites at ours and visitors feet which isn't always appreciated and one of my son's friends is quite frightened of him. Pip is a loving dog but yesterday I bought some clippers because the groomer is scared of him too !! When you have had your yorkie for a while you will get to know each other I am sure and will have a great relationship. Pip is definately a mummies boy and I love him to bits. Congratulations on getting your new little one. |

| They have a real small stub of a tail after they're docked. Are you saying he has no tail at all??? I wouldn't worry about the akc registration too much if your not gonna breed or show. The only reason I liked it was it did show some of their ancestry. I just hope your poor puppy has a tail.

| What country did you buy the puppy in? In some countries it's illegal to "dock" or cut the tail shorter. Here in the US, there is a movement in that direction but currently the "breed standard" requires a docked tail for a show dog. Most breeders in this country do it to all litters because it is done within a couple of days of birth and you cannot tell at that point which puppies have show potential. Did the breeder represent that the puppy would be registered? Did you pay for an AKC registered dog? Pet quality dogs are not always "papered" or resistered because there is no reason to do so if they will not be used for showing or breeding. Did your contract require that you have the dog neutered? The shot and other health records are the most important papers for a pet. |

| Congrats on your Yorkie! About the fighting and biting........don't tolerate it. It's time for Spankie to be retrained. When he begins either behavior, sharply tell him "No!" and then walk away. Withdrawing your attention (positive or negative) is the most effective thing you can do. Don't give him anymore attention beyond the sharp no. Come back to him a while later and praise him if he's settled down. The key is to be consistent. He will come around |

| Don't you think there is biting and BITING? Pip plays roughly but when he bites he is playing and what I call mouthing. He even does it to the cat who could really hurt him if he hurt her. I think he was traded harshly in a previous home and if I was to say NO he cowers. Maybe spankie is the same so you may have to love him the way he is but he must be taught not to hurt anyone. Ingallsra gave good advice to you. |

| Hi Trish Yes, there are different kinds of biting....but if he's biting or even mouthing you it becomes a respect issue. It could also lead to more serious aggression issues if allowed to continue. You need to place yourself as the alpha. I absolutely agree that he needs all the love you can give him, but he will thrive even more if you also include boundaries for him. Dogs do well with structure and consistent rules. Good luck Latinrose |

| Hi Rachel Pip is two years now so he's the way he is I think !! What I find worse than his mouthing is that he licks and licks - He licks my hands if I'm sat with hubby but I read somewhere that dogs do this if they are tense so we translate it as GET OFF MY WOMAN !!! he makes us laugh so much he is such a happy soul. |

| Hi Trish, I had a good laugh when I read your message about the licking 'cause I know exactly what you mean Oscar is a little licking machine too! He also has a really funny obsession with my undergarments--bras, socks, undies. He takes one of these items with him wherever he decides to sleep. He doesn't chew on it. He just curls up with it and takes a nap....he currently has one of my socks in his doggie bed. Does Pip do anything like this? I've only had Oscar for three weeks, and already I can't imagine life without this strange and special little character |

| Wow - reading your description of Oscar could be me describing Pip !! I can find anything in his bed - undies, socks, tissues, he had a yellow duster the other day. He buries his finds in his bed, behind the curtains or in the corner of a room. When he is 'burying' something he sort of scrapes the floor with his nose towards the object. He does this with food too. The worst is when I find a doggy chew 'buried' under my pillow - Yuk !! |

| Thank you for your advice. Spankie is a lovable dog and he loves to play around. He acknowledges that I'm his new mommie. He follows me around and looks for me when i'm not around. He is also learning very quickly to go potty outside. i got him wee wee pads and he pees on it not on the floor. LOL I'm soo glad that he is learning quickly. here is a pic of him.... :-)
