| Our Vacation Dilema... My husband and I are going to Vegas at the end of June. My neighbor had agreed to watch Esme for the week. Well, as it turns out, when I talked to her about it again last night, and gave her the exact dates, she and her husband are going to be out of town too! My parents are going to Vegas also, so I can't leave Esme with them. My husbands parents have no experience with a small dog, they have a boxer who lives outside and NEVER comes in the house. In addition, my mother in law doesn't even LIKE dogs and doesn't even touch Esme. The one time she attempted to, even Esme looked uncomfortable (I swear, dogs can tell). My aunt could watch Esme, but they have three teenagers who are ALWAYS coming in and out (and wouldn't remember to check if Esme was safely inside), and a three year old terror (who I love dearly, but he is a rough). The last person I have to ask is my husbands cousin. They have three yorkies, and I am hopping they would be willing to take care of Esme for the week... If that doesn't work out, then we are going to have to board her. There is a place nearby called Tail End Resort. www.tailend.net Have any of you ever boarded your babies??? What were your experiences? This place looks nice from the website, but honestly, I don't know... I don't want Esme to think I have just left her behind.

| We have boarded our babies before and it worked out just fine! Just make sure they have individual time everyday and that they will baby her some for you! We took our babies treats to them too. It is hard to do, but she will be safe and well taken care of if it is a good kennel. You won't have to worry about her getting hurt or lost either! Our kennel also grooms them for a fee while they are there!

| the kennel sound like the best thing for your Esme. Have you looked into a pet sitter. I found my pet sitter through our vet and it has worked out great for me. Don't leave my furbabies much but, have been happy with the pet sitter. Go and check out the kennel you are thinking about and take Esme and see how they interact with him. If you know your Esme is happy you will have a great vacation.

| That place looks really nice.. I checked out the site. I can tell you this, my mom has two coon hounds (not yorkies, I know, but still dogs lol), and she takes them to this kennel whenever her and my dad go out of town, and our dogs LOVE it! They have so much fun while they are there. They get all excited when they walk in the building and hear the other dogs... and when they come home they are all hyper and energetic. It's so funny. My mom is VERY picky about where she leaves her babies, and she always makes sure that she takes them to a place where they take the dogs outside also, instead of just leaving them inside the whole time... cause my moms dogs both love being outside and playing. And she makes sure that it's not a place where they leave the dogs outside the whole time... Kennels aren't so bad. You can usually tell which ones are bad when you go to the place. Now a days, they have a lot of really nice places (kennels) to leave your dogs at... and they really take good care of them while they are there. If I were you, I'd go ahead with the kennel, because from the site you listed you can tell it's a nice place... And plus, if Esme has a bad time while she is there you will be able to tell when you pick her up, just by how she acts. Good Luck! And have fun in Vegas!!!

| My two cents, for what it's worth **Sigh** Well, here's my story. We moved to Houston about two years ago. We have family in MA, so we have to fly often and I board our female Yorkie. The place is called Barkington Inn...very posh and expensive. My precious little girl has stayed there for the last time. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt, but each time I went to pick her up, they had to bathe her first! WHAT??? We rush home from the airport to get to her (I miss her terribly), they know when we'll be arriving and she's too dirty to come home? Yep! We've had to go home, unpack, and go back for her in an hour or so. Anyway, it makes me wonder if my little girl has been in her own mess for the whole time I've been gone. How are you to know? I resent it very much...they say, "We won't charge you for the bath!" You're darned right you won't! I don't take my dog there looking like that, and I expect to pick her up looking the same way I dropped her off. All I have to say is be careful! I've got a great neighbor who has now offered to keep her (and our new puppy) whenever we have to go out of town. |

| Go to www.Petswelcome.com it is a site that lists all motels, hotels all over united states that allow pets! Some charge a small fee, some motels even offer doggy sitting.. But when we do check in with our babys we take them with us, just to feel more secure! you never know if you come back and your baby is gone and for some unknown reason the staff has no idea how someone could have possibly gotten in? but it is a good resource to save especially if you want to travel with your baby's and not have to try and find a sitter or kennel. which personally I could not do! have fun! |
