| Recognizing a Pure Breed Yorkie Pup Hi everyone, I am an owner of a wonderful 2.5 years old yorkie and I am in the process of purchasing another yorkie. I visted a CKC registered breeder and saw this adorable 4 months old yorkie. The pup has wonderful yorkie facial features. However, there's a white line along the back of the pup (where the hair parts). The dam has a light coat and I was told by the breeder that the pup is starting to break its colours. I am just wondering if this is true. The little girl is simply a doll, in fact, she looks like a little skunk with the white line down her back. As I am intending to buy the pup, I will like to get some feedback from experienced yorkie owners to find out if this is a true breed yorkie. Thank you! |

| Our Maggie was a little skunk. She had white head and white lines down her back when she was 3-4 months. She is now 6 months and her white on her back is becoming blue grey. Her head is getting blonder. I think it is normal when the mother and father have lighter coats.

| Pepper looks like a little skunk LOL and he's purebred. He started beaking colors around 3.5 months of age, first white (head and that funny line along the back where the hair parts). Now the roots aren't as whitish gray anymore, starting to get steel gray. He's almost 4 months now.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Skunk Yorkies! My Yorkie did in fact have a "line" down his back when he started changing colors, and yep...it was right around 4 months of age! We called him our little skunk lol The line going down his back wasn't white though, it was silver as this is the color that he turned (although really it is more of a dark gray, right now away). Is there any way that you could go back to the breeder and take some pictures? Just tell her that you want to show (someone) the little pup's pictures and then maybe you can come back and post them here for us to see so that we can give you our opinions? I'm sure the pup is a purebred Yorkie, but it would be nice to see some pics just to be sure Good luck in whatever you choose to do!

| Thanks for all the replies! I have only met the pup once last week. Maybe my memory failed me and the line was silverish and not white. I am revisiting the pup today again before making the final decision. I will try to take some pictures if possible. Now, I can only post a picture of her face. I don't know why... but its love at first sight...even got a name for her, Pebbles . Will continue to post updates! |

If it is breaking light at the part at that age, very likely it will one that will mature a light colour. Pups can change so much one way or another on darkness and lightness of colour but I would bet if parents are both light, pup will be light. It does not mean it isn't a purebred by any means. | |
