| Introducing 1 Yorkie to another Hello everyone! I'm new to this community, but I've had my yorkie for approximately 2 years plus now. Her name is Thistle and she's 2 years 7 months. My wife and I bought her from a pet shop(big mistake). She had some health problems in the first 2 months she was with us, but has since recovered. Thistle is sometimes picky with her food and barks a little when we leave the house. We have been correcting her behaviour with a squirt bottle, and it has helped a little. She has also received basic training and is pretty obedient most of the time. She does get very excited when she does meet other dogs on her walks, partly because she was probably separated from her mum at a young age(that's the problem with puppy mills). Anyway, we are getting another yorkie this Friday. Her name will be Pebbles, and she is from a breeder here in Canada. Pebbles will have limited CKC(Canadian Kennel Club) registration according to the sale agreement. Pebbles' mum and brother passed away shortly after her mum gave birth because of birth complications. Pebbles had to be nursed by hand and slowly introduced to another nursing dam when she was 2 weeks old. Pebbles is currently 14 1/2 weeks and is just full of energy when we visited her. She is not the least bit scrawny, extremely friendly and outgoing. The breeder told us that she is always begging for food and is never picky with what she's given. Pebbles is also always giving away kisses like there's no tomorrow. We are interested in learning more about how we should go about introducing Pebbles to Thistle. If anyone has anything to share, we would really appreciate it. Thank you! |

| First, welcome to YT. I would take Thistle to visit your new yorkie, so you can see what she thinks. They say to always introduce them on NEUTRAL territory and not the home. Good luck. Would like to see some pictures of the two when you get them together. I hope it works out ok.

| Yeah like yorkieusa said you shouldnt introduce them at home cause Thistle will feel like the new pup is taking over his territory. |

| Hello Welcome to YT The only other thing that I have found is that Yorkies Generaly do well at introduction. If Your yorkie is protective of one of you though let the other person do the introduction. That way he wont feel the need to protect you Good luck |

| Hi all, Thanks for your replies! Firstly, if I bring Thistle to visit Pebbles, would that not be in Pebbles' territory? And I'm not sure if the breeder would be okay with that, because she has other older dogs in the house that are nursing. Secondly, we don't really have a neutral area to introduce them. Some books I read say that it's okay to introduce them at home as long as we don't show favortism to them. |

| Actually, even if you just take Thistle with you when you pick up your new puppy, I would introduce them anyplace but home. Since you have a bit older yorkie, I would definitely find anyplace else to make the intro. I'm sure they'll both be fine irregardless. Some do have problems, though. It's just good to be careful the first time.

| Well, Louie was about a yr and a half when we got Bella. I brought Louie to the kennel when we picked Bella up, but we came right home afterwards and I put Bella in a "playpen" immediately and let Louie walk around it and check her out all the while talking to Louie really sweet and stuff. We did that for about a half hr. to an hr. until Louie seemed like he just really wanted to play with her. Then we put Louie in the pen with her and watched to make sure he wasnt too rough. They were fine together and then we let them both out and it has been wonderful ever since. There has never been any problems about territory or anything. I dont know if this is because Louie is just a naturally pretty mellow little guy and she was just so young to him that he did not see her as a threat at all or what. We have never showed any favoritism and I am sure that helped. Good luck to you and congrats on getting your new baby!

| We took Winston to visit Maggie when she was about 2 months old. Then we exchanged blankets so they both get familiar with each other's smell. We told Winston it was his playmate. He was actually afraid of her when she first came home, they are inseparable now.
