| Those who haven't neutered Hi All, My Peanut is 6 months old now, and it's almost time for him to get neutered Out of pure curiosity, do any of you guys have male yorkies who were not neutered AND not bred with a female? If so, what kind of marking problems did you have? Is it almost a guarantee that the male pup will start marking in the house, even though he always goes outside to potty? Is that why so many of you have your yorkies that wear belly bands? Peggy |

| i have a baby yorkie boy right now who i plan on not getting neutered... i just dont see the point other than making it inconvienient for the parents. i know what they say about temperment, marking and the "humping"...but i had a chihuahua for 10 years before oscar and he never did any of those and he was not neutered as well. he was just fine.... you could tell that he was very interested if there were a girl dog around... but other than that... he was just fine! i just personally dont believe in it just for the fact of he might mark his territory and all that.... and for the medical reasons... to me.. it would be like having my breasts removed now at 21 because every woman in my family has had it so far (and they all have)... i just dont like the idea... but! if its for you... i just wanted to let you know that i never had any problems with bob. |

| My Sugar is not neutered and has not been bred yet. He marks like there is no tommorrow. If you aren't going to breed, I would say have him neutered. Neutered males have less chance of certain cancers. If he's not being bred, he will be a happier little guy if you have him neutered.

| Timmy is 7 months old and he does not mark when he's home BUT when I take him to anyone elses house he is lifting his leg up in every corner. I think that is marking?!?! Now I use belly bands on him when we go out and I don't have to worry about anything. The pad absorbs it all!!! |

| I aquired a 3yo unneutered-unbred male and he marked like a champ! I had him neutered and he hasn't marked since.

| romeo is 3yrs old and unneutered. i just don't have the heart to do that to him. plus he has collapsed trachea and the risk is too high of putting him under. i couldn't bear if something happened to him because of an elective surgery. * he pees outside and on wee wee pads. no marking issues at home. he does mark at other peoples houses. so i just make him sit on my lap. he humps stuffed animals about once a day. he has never been with a female. * i take great care of his health. and there are reports that neutering actually causes other types of body cancers because of the lack of testosterone. |

| I have an unneutered male (Rowdy) and he does mark in the house - but it is just a few drops here and there and he doesn't do it all the time - it comes and goes I have wood and concrete floors (for the most part) and so it isn't too big an issue. I don't use a belly band because we have a doggy door and he goes in and out into the backyard all the time - I want him to be able to PEE outside. Rexy is neutered (at 6 months) and squats to pee and only pees once outside - as opposed to Rowdy who may pee 5 times on an outing. We hope to breed Rowdy at least once or twice, but haven't found a female yet. Marking is an issue, but not too big a one for us.

| Jake isn't neutered at 8 months, but I do intend to get him neutered. (I'm just waiting to see what is happening with his teeth before I plan to put him under - incase that he needs work on his mouth at the same time). He is already starting to mark, not often but If he gets access to one of the rooms we have that he doesn't normally have access to (the spare room for example) ... then he will mark that room. For me neutering is just the responsible thing to do if your not planning on breeding. IMO an un-neutered male is more likely to mark/spray, more likely to try to escape to find a lady friend, and more like if he finds a lady friend, for her to have an unplanned pregnancy. I've also heard from many sources that neutering will calm down a dog. My family are farmers, and even though we breed animals for food, we still neuter all young livestock to help keep them in check. I kinda view a un-neutered dog as a horny teenager, a load of hormones running thru his system but without the benefit of the sex education you might get at school. Come on lets face it ... we all know men think with there dicks quite a lot, imagine what thats like unchecked. I respect that other people have different views, these just happen to be mine. |

| Jake is almost 5 years old and has never marked either. I think that it all depends on the dog. And is is very calm, excpet when the door bell rings. Even when my friends bring their dogs over he never marks in the house. |
