| dull black hair with silver coming in? Is it normal for the hair on the head to turn silver? Cash is 15 weeks old and the hair on his head (topnot) is losing the black/tan and turning silver, also, his black hairs are very dull with no shine to it? is it a mineral deficiency? if so, can anyone recommend a product that will help his hair get stronger? Thanx!

| maybe try Missing Ling supplement? I heard people rave about this product... I just got it so I can't tell the results yet. My pup's almost 17 weeks and there's a lot of silver coming through, not only the head but also the back, he might be a 'platinum' one, very curious to see myself. Showing silver is normal at his age.

| That silver on the head will most likely change to tan. His coat is going to go through so many changes. Missing Link is good for the coat

| I use missing link and love it! Also Mimi turned completely silver on her head and a little on her body mixed with the black. I noticed now that her back looks like a steel blue and her roots on her head are coming in gold. |

| Gracie is 15 weeks and has silver hair coming in behind all of her black hair, head, back, tummy. Her face and legs are still a golden tan and don't seem to be changing. Her coat is shiny. I have her on canned Pro Plan puppy, and a combo of Chicken Soup and Royal Canin Tiny Puppy dry food. I also use Pantene Pro V conditioner when I give her a bath.

| for all the advice. I'll definitely look into the missing link product. also, anyone use mane and tail shampoo? i've used it and it made my hair really long and shiny but i don't know if it's safe to use on yorkies. i heard something about pH levels being different for dogs but mane and tail is formulated for horses. I'm currently using buddy wash on Cash and it smells sooo good but it's not helping his hair growth or shine.

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Tried the Mane and Tail - save your money, and put it toward Pet Silk products I use the Puppy Tearless shampoo, and the Conditioner. I also tried the topknot gel; but found the smell bothers her, and her hair gets gooey even with using just a tad. They have various other products, also; but, I'm finding Abbie's coat doesn't need all that other stuff. She's shiney - and no matting! Of course, it also depends on the coat your furbaby has. Silk coats don't need more than a good weekly washing and daily brushing (with a good boar's hair brush). IMO.

| Google started out with a cottony (dull) black coat and his fur came in a soft, shiny silver with gold at his ears and a mix of silver/black on his body, which looks like a shiny grey. He's only 10 months old but teh grey makes him look a like a little old man. I think the color combination is pretty, and often get remarks on how good-looking he is because of it, it's a very distinctive color combination. When my Yorkie meetup went to the Early Show last week, the cameraman thought he looked so cute he zoomed in on Google so he got his national TV debut and all he had to do was sit there in his pretty silver/gold/grey coat! Don't worry about that color combination, it makes for a beautiful Yorkie! |

| Thanx for all your responses! now i just have to figure out what to do about his hair starting to looking all scruffy and dirty two days after i wash him. it's so frustrating! it comb him on a daily basis i wash him every week and he's an indoor dog with the occasional walks outside and yet he looks like a stray. *sigh* maybe when he's a bit older his hair will start to look nice.

| The dull black is just the puppy coat, i shaved my pup's off b/c it was such a warm summer by me and we went to FL for 10 days so it was just a good idea. After shaving it off, i have a platnum pup, his body is platnum and his head and feet are very light tan (almost white) and it looks like he has a head band on b/c he has a line of black on his head in front of his ears i love it. wish i could get a pic up, but i am having trouble w/it |
