| Allergies? So...while I've decided that a Yorkie is what I want, I've not yet really spent any time with one! I have mild pet allergies - mostly cats, rabbits and horses. I was not allergic to my Bichon Frise, but a golden retriever will send me into a sneezing fit. Please reassure me that yorkies are generally good for people with allergies - I've read that before somewhere and that's what I'm banking on here. I think it has to do with the type of fur (no undercoat) and the no shedding...the fact that they're so tiny can't hurt either! I guess I just have to go spend some time with my breeder's dogs to make sure I'm okay with them. I hate allergies! Anyone else in the same boat as me? |

| Yorkies are supposed to be a good breed for people with allergies however someone on here had to give up there yorkie because it still aggrivated their allergies. I would go spend some time with your breeders dogs thats the only way you will know for sure

I agree. It varies on person to person. Poodles are also 'good for allergy sufferers'. Do you know anyone that own one? Maybe you could spend a few hours with him/her and see how you do? Best wishes to you

| I have allergies, I am allergic to dogs, cats, and goats. I don't think I will ever get a goat so I don't have to worry about that one but I do have 3 cats and 5 dogs. Most of my dogs don't shed and are good for people with allergies. Although I do have to take medicine every day and get shots regularly. My doctors think I am crazy and keep telling me to get rid of my animals, right like that will ever happen!! I love them and I can't live without them. I believe it is the dander I am allergic to and alot of people are allergic to. I can only have long haired cats because short haired cats give off alot more dander and my allergies are horrible around them. The same goes for the dogs. When I am around Labs or other dogs that shed alot, my allergies are bad. But like someone said, it varies from person to person. The only way you will be sure is if you go and spend some time with yorkies. Good luck!!!

| I have bad allergies to dog and cats, but I have yorkies and maltese in the house with bothering me a bit. One thing I do is wash my hands after petting and never rub my eyes or face after petting, surely will get my eyes itching. I do not have to be overly cautious to vacuum everyday or anything like that. That's my experience. I can't walk into a house with a different breed and immediately start sneezing. Good luck. |
